I look forward to my southern trips on I-95 for one reason, and that is Smithfield's BBQ in Lumberton NC. It is the only place I stop specifically for food between my home in Va and the FL keys. I lived in NC for a number of years and have never found anyone outside of NC who comes close to that flavor. I'm beginning to salivate just thinking about it.

We stopped at South Of The Border because it was a classic Americana type of thing that we felt we were supposed to. My daughter (and, who am I kidding- so did I) enjoyed the Reptile House there. Lunch, however, wasn't great at their Mexican restaurant.

Other than that, same as tegu69 - rest areas for lunches. We'll hit a Flying J/Pilot with a Denny's for breakfast. Not great, but an expected quality- plus they had easy parking with the big rigs.

We stayed at a campground named Whispering Pines on our way back for a night. Great spot- pull through, very level and full hookups.

Rest areas for lunch. Once in a while Cracker Barrel, if there is room in rv parking.
