Route 89A Arizona from Prescott to Cave Spring

Taking a Arizona trip this week for first time, wondering about route 89A Arizona north from Prescott, we are driving a class A 33 foot. Wondering if this is a RV friendly route. Will our phones work? Thank you.

The route we are thinking is from Prescott (Point of Rocks Campground) to Cave Springs , it does look like its actually on 89A, am I to assume that part of 89A is not a problem? The Cave Springs I am talking about is CAVE SPRINGS at OAK CREEK. This is what we are thinking : 169 (Dewey) to I-17 (N) to 179 (Sedona) to 89A

Yes 169. Go through Prescott Valley to Dewey and turn left on 169 to 17

Not sure I see Cherry on map, I see heading 169 from Prescott to 17 North. Is that correct?

The campground is Cave Springs Campground in Sedona, sorry if I was not clear. My wife is not a fan of steep winding roads so I think I will need to take the longer way around. I will be headng from Point of Rocks campground in Prescott. Thanks!

What is your destination from Prescott. I don't know of a Cave Spring around there. Are you trying to get to I-40? I-17? Sedona?

On the section of the route from Prescott to Clarkdale phones will be intermittent. You will be quite high coming down into Clarkdale and when there is a clear shot to a tower you'll have reception. When you're not, nothing. The route over the mountain is steep and has a large number of close switchbacks. The state has restricted it to NO TRUCKS OVER 50' in length, but there is no restriction on RV's regardless of length. I have driven it in a 38' Diesel Bounder, southwest to northeast, pulling a toad. It was tight, especially on the switchbacks and through Jerome, but if you are a good mountain driver, and your equipment can handle the grades, it is not a major problem. The same general issues will be seen on the section of the route from Sedona northeast. This is the section with steep cliffs right at the road edge that will reach out and touch you if you're not careful. Switchbacks, steep grades and narrow spots are the same as the other section. When you finally get up out of Oak Creek Canyon and onto the mesa, it's a very pretty ride. Same truck length restriction. The stretch of 89A between Clarkdale and Sedona is no problem at all, except for possible traffic and road construction issues st some times.

X2 out of Sedona. On a bus tour of the area the guide pointed out the rocks on the side of the road that had RV paint on them.
Avoid any road that states `scenic' next to it.

Cave Springs? Not ringing a bell and I thought I’d been everywhere. But 89A north is doable though I wouldn’t suggest taking it from Sedona to Flagstaff with a big rig. That was one of my favorite roads when I rode motorcycles because of the grades and tight curves. Some people claim to do it but I can’t believe they manage to stay in their own lane and they likely acquire a trail of hostile solo drivers, especially going uphill.Your phone should work OK, again the only questionable area might be the Sedona-Flagstaff stretch which is somewhat less than 30 miles.

After posting I realized that route takes you over Mingus Mountain and through Jerome, an emphatic no for a big rig.Sorry for the sloppiness.
