RV friendly diesel before the Keys

Can anyone tell me where the last truck stop or the last RV friendly fuel station is before entering the Florida Keys area. I will be taking I-75 to rte 27 then probably 997 to highway 1. My range is not very far, so I figure if I fill up before entering the Keys I should be fine until I disconnect.

Thanks Mich. I've avoided that place because it didn't look too friendly for Class A diesels. Your post pretty much confirms my thoughts.

I've stopped in there a number of times, but don't know which islands have diesel. If you have a truck pulling a longish trailer or a good size motor home pulling a toad the only island that has easy access is the first or northernmost island. It can get crazy there with the amount of vehicles trying to get in and out. I was there one time when a Class A with a toad, at that first island took up 1 of the lanes to access the other pumps. He was followed at the same island by a pickup towing maybe an 18' boat that blocked access to the other side of the pumps.
Another time I was there I heard an older Class A hit either the pump or part of the island while trying to pull out. It did quite a number on the side of the MH.
I've also seen people waiting in line to get access to that one side of that northernmost island.

I've checked out that Race Trac in Florida City on Google Earth and also when driving by on the highway. I didn't see any obvious truck islands. Do they have truck islands, or do their regular islands have diesel pumps?

There are plenty of RV, big rig friendly stations on 997(Krome) from SW 88th(Kendal) all the way to Homestead. That is the Redland Agricultural Area with lots of semis hauling for the nurseries there.

Is the Pilot and Indian truck stop the same on 41/ 997
No, the one the Miccosukee Tribe operates is Dade Corner , on the SE corner of 41/997. The Pilot station is on the NE corner. I have found the Miccosukee station to be cheaper and easier to get into and out of if you are approaching from the west on 41. We usually overnight at the casino, in their RV lot and have a good meal there before heading the 4 hours on down to Key West.

There's a Race Trac in Homestead on S. Dixie Highway, right before you get to the Last Chance Package Store. Easy in and out. We use it all the time right before we enter the Keys.

I usually look at the free Gas Buddy app for the Fla. City area and go to the cheapest.

(By the way, for Florida trips of any length: We got a Winn Dixie card and earn points on their fuel rewards program every time we buy groceries. Adds up fast, and you get credits on your fuel cost, at mostly Shell stations all over the state.)

We always stop at the last rest stop on the Turnpike (mile 19, Snapper Creek) and it is very easy in and out. Not too sure about Route 1, but we had stopped at the above mentioned RaceTrack with our old gasser and trailer in previous trips - not too bad in and out ...

We use either the Indian truck stop at the casino US41/Krome Av or the Texaco station on the west side of US1 just as you start into the keys. If you use 997, AKA Krome Av, there are a couple of quick stop truck stops on the west side as you head down, but you have to look for them.

I always gas up at the Shell at the corner of the 1 and Palm Drive. I know there is diesel there, just not sure where the pump is located. If it's at the north side of the lot, it's an easy in off the 1 and out on Palm Drive back toward the 1.

There is a Hess a little further down the road, but it's on the opposite side of the road (the side coming out of the Keys) and could be a PITA to get out of because there is no light and 3 lanes of traffic to get through to get back on the road heading toward the Keys.

I little further down the road there is a huge RaceTrac on the right side of the road, but I've never filled there, so I can't comment on it.

RaceTrak was the one I was mentioning.

Toolguy- You will find a new fuel station on the right just before you head out into the Keys in Florida City. Tried to find it on google with no luck but it is a nice new facility with lots of turning room.
