Verizon in Mexico

Yes, I searched. There has been discussion in the past but technology and service plans change daily.

Anyone use their Verizon phones in Mexico? We have Androids (Samsung S5). I see that Verizon has a new plan for Mexico but it is confusing...I'll call them for clarification but wonder if it is worth pursuing given coverage. Main use would be to stay in touch with family. Data would be nice but probably too expensive. We plan a clockwise circle from Monterrey, Guad, PV, Mazatlan, Kino, Nogales.

My last trip, 5 years ago, we bought a prepay. I know a lot of you use the sticks for data but was wondering if technology has advanced and we could just use Verizon. Thanks in advance.

Sprint started advertising here in UT several weeks ago, that they now cover all of Mexico and have affordable rates. Have not looked, but might be an alternative ....

We have the AT&T 'Viva Mexico' plan. 700 minutes with rollover. We can call from Mexico same as we do here in the U S. Unlimited texting while in the U S but we turn off texting while in Mexico because we were told it is very expensive. AT&T works through Telcel in Mexico.

Late to follow up to MM49 as I have been traveling. ATT offers for $30 unlimited text, 120 mb data and $1 PER MINUTE to call or receive calls. I would call that kind of lame. I guess I could try to find a wi-fi spot so that I could use Skype on the phone to return calls. Verizon offers 500 minutes, 500 sent text and 1GB data for $25.

This would be of great interest as we plan to drive to Panama and back in the next 6 months. We are currently on a plan with one daughter through ATT but the other daughter is on Verizon and we could change in a heartbeat. While ATT is in the middle of buying into a Mexico provider, their plans are lame compared to Verizon in Mexico and Central America. Keep us posted!
That is not true. ATT works through Mexico, Central America and South Americal. An international plan is required.

We purchased the Mexico/Canada plan, only used the talk minutes and txt, limited the data use. We used it in Canada all of Aug. Cost was $15.00 a month per phone. Worked great on Canada's carriers so imagine it will work just the same with Mexico's carriers. We will be using it this coming winter in Mexico.

We used my Verizon in Los Algodonas without thinking of extra charges. Another couple with us did the same....we were trying to find a third party. We both worried because we don't have international plan but we never got charged. Don't know if it's cuz we were within 2 blocks of the border or not.

My Android with Verizon worked just fine on my last run down (two months ago), I got a text message that fees would be added, I do not have the international plan. JH

yes, we do and we use the month to month plan. $15 or $30, depending on how much data you want. Have had good luck with it. They are connected with one of the big Mexico carriers and seem to have decent coverage.
