Asheville East KOA NC

Looking for anyone that has stayed in this campground. Have searched many campgrounds in this area and none seem to rate five star. Will be using as a base for day trips, so not a destination campground. Just want clean, safe, well managed campground. Would prefer not to be able to reach out and touch next camper but realize it's a private park.

Thanks for all the responses. This is the best part of Good Sam for me, this forum.Gonna roll the dice and stay at KOA. Looked at Mamma Gerties right after made reservations at KOA. Looked good, just didn't feel like canceling and redoing. Was funny when I googled it, and saw how close the two campgrounds were. We wiil definitely check it out for future. Hopefully KOA won't be totally full during week. Thanks again

Stayed there for a few nights in route to Myrtle Beach and back. Its an OK campground, safe and whatnot, but not much to it. Gravel mostly, and grass. There is a trailer park in the back. The creek is neat, but one morning there were lots of people that were not at the campground that were just there to fish. Nothing special but a good enough spot for a base camp. There is a really good pizza place close by, called Pepperonis I think. Its in a strip mall across from a mountain...pizza was really good.

Mama Gerties is just up the HILL from there. I recommend them.
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "...Holy Cow....what a ride!"

We stayed there two summers ago for a wedding. It's perfect for what you describe. We would stay there again, no question.

We stayed there last August and enjoyed the area, going into Asheville a couple of times. It was more quiet earlier in the week and was filled on the weekend, sites are close together but we could still put our awing out. The hwy noise really wasn't bad since it is higher up from the camgrounds. The trains don't bother us either. The most irritating thing is when some one starts a campfire and its smolders so you can't open your windows, but that can happen anywhere.

Re: "Class A's don't go over bridge across creek." I've done it twice (35') and there were others there too. That is the best area since you are parallel to the lake and have a great view. I like the CG. Very convenient. Easy access to gas at Ingles super market just up the road.

Another one we like is at the same exit: Mama Gerties. Their new sites on top of the mountain are awesome.

I think there are other campgrounds in the Asheville area that are given better reviews and probably cheaper. That is if Asheville is your main reason for going.

We stayed there in sites 40 and 42. (see map on KOA site) We have a 33' Class A and toad and the other coach is a 36' class A with toad. Back in sites, gravel, trees. We were facing the creek but not creekside. The creekside back in sites are fairly short. As other post says, Class A's don't go over bridge across creek. Not the best KOA we've ever stayed in but suited our needs. We have stayed at other campgrounds in the area and this is the best we have found. Spaces aren't very wide but was adequate. Had room to put out chairs and not feel crowded. The spot next to us (site 44) was 30 amp and vacant so we didn't feel crowded. Nice place to walk across creek into the small camping and tent camping area. Some traffic noise but didn't bother us. Some train noise but again didn't bother us. Clean and safe. Enjoyed our stay. Would go there again.

We have stayed there several times and it is an OK campground. We camped across the river in a 5th wheel, and on road side in a Class C, at the time the road across the river would not support a motorhome. It is a very good campground to travel around Asheville and see the sights, but at the time nothing paved in side of campground.

We always stay at Lake Powhatan Campground. It's a National Forest Campground 15 miles from downtown Asheville. Has one loop that is full hook ups, 50amp.

We will be there again in Aug for two weeks. Nice wide paved sites very wooded. If you have a Federal senior pass you get the discount.

Never been there but interested for the same purpose...

Gets mixed reviews due to traffic and trains.
