Campground recommendations for Cheyenne and Cody, WY

Hello Everyone-

My husband and I are planning to be in Cheyenne, WY during the last few days of Frontier Days in the end of July and would love some recommendations for where to stay. We would like to stay somewhere that offers electric, water and sewer.

We will also be spending a few days in Cody, WY so if you have recommendations there that would be great also.

Another vote for Ponderosa in Cody. The sites are small but doable for our 38' fiver. Best is that it's in walking distance to almost everything. There's a beautiful lower section that is for tent camping, but you can walk down and see deer and a lovely creek. Good store and the people at the office are friendly and knowledgeable.

Yep!! Best bang for the buck in Cody - with the possible exception of WalMart. There were nearly 30 RVs in the parking lot one night when we went to Wally World.

Cheyenne WY KOA and Bill Cody State Park some electric only hookups. Beautiful area. Also Ponderosa Campground in Cody looked good. We stayed closer to Yellowstone at Yellowstone Valley Inn Campground. So-so campground but suited our needs.

Another vote for Curt Gowdy - wonderful RV spots (we only use electric but water & dump available in the park). Bit if a drive though.

We liked Ponderosa in Cody, stayed three nights in early September this year to see the excellent museums. It's very convenient, and the enjoyable trolley tour picks up there. Sites themselves are small, at least ours was. But we were out all day so it didn't matter. Good place to regroup, do laundry, stock up on food before entering Yellowstone.

There also are some Forest Service campgrounds around the Buffalo Bill Cody Dam.

The drive from Cody to the east entrance of YNP is quite scenic, by the way.

So, Walmart now has hookups? Th,at is what the OP said that they would want. To the OP, check out RV Park Reviews. There are many reviews on both Cody and Cheyenne campgrounds. There are also a few campgrounds around Ft Collins CO which isn't too far from Cheyenne.

Here is one you might think about, especially if you like riding a steam train. Stay close to Denver, CO. Take the UP #844 from Denver to Cheyenne, Wy. spend the whole day at the rodeo, then take the ride back to Denver. All info can be googled. Just a thought.

I think campgrounds in Cheyenne may have have restrictions for Frontier Days regarding # of days. From what I've read on rvparkreviews I'd stay away from the Terry Bison Ranch. We stayed a couple of nights at AB Campground, they have a BBQ place within the campground. Wasn't the best place I've ever stayed but it was adequate and the owners there were VERY nice. If you go, be sure to hit the free Kiwanis Pancake breakfast downtown. My brother lives there and works it every year.

Stayed at the KOA in Cody several years ago. The park was a short drive to the Museum was a short drive. If I remember right they had a pancake breakfast every morning. Sites were large enough for our 40ft. and 4 slides and had a small pool.

All the campgounds are packed during Frontier Days. We normally stay at the AF Base, but have stayed at the state park west of town about 15 miles, nice but no hook-ups. You'll need a reservation someplace.

For Cody, we like the Ponderosa Campground. Last time we were there (2010), they didn't take credit cards, just checks and cash. Within walking distance of the Buffalo Bill Museum.

We've never stayed there, but check out Terry Bison Ranch Resort south of Cheyenne. It looked ok from the road.
