campgrounds in North or South Carolinia

The wife and I are planning to take our TT to North or South Carolina in June. Any suggestion on campgrounds we should not miss. We both like the ocean. Thanks for your help.

Our preference for right on the beach would be Ocean Lakes at Myrtle Beach. If you are in a motorhome and don't mind being a bike ride away from the beach, but would like a nice luxurious park at a lower cost than the ones in Myrtle Beach, then that would Hilton Head Island Motor Coach Resort in Hilton Head Island, SC (not too far from Savannah Georgia).

Campmyrtlebeach.com. gives you the private campgrounds. There are a few state park campgrounds as well.

Double ditto. But you may not be able to get a reservation this late: many of those places are already booked.

If you're interested in lakes too, Hiawassee, GA has some nice cgs. Again though, the reservations may be all taken this close to June.

Not to be a downer, and you could get lucky and prove me wrong, but I think you will have a very hard time finding anywhere on the ocean in NC or SC at this late date. You may have to take whatever you can find (if anything) rather than being able to pick and choose. As someone else said, your best chance is that you call a campground just as someone else has cancelled. Be aware that many oceanfront campgrounds have a minimum stay requirement during the summer.

We really loved Huntington Beach SP in SC. Quite close to the beach. With little development up or down the beach, it was much quieter than other beaches closer to bigger towns. Still close enough to Myrtle Beach if you need a day with more "action". Plus close to Murrells Inlet which has some fine sea food. If you get tired of beach activities at the park, walk over to Atalaya and explore the ruins of a mansion once owned by Archer Huntington, son of C.P. Huntington of railroad fame.

If you're wanting to visit Charleston, James Island County Park is a great CG. They even have a shuttle you can take into town if you don't want to drive ($10).

As noted above, if you are planning a trip in June you may have waited too long for many of the popular campsites in this area.

I think it would help a lot if we knew what you are looking for in a campground.

Kid friendly or adults only.
Mountains or ocean front.

We like Mama Gerties near Asheville as a jump off point to the Smokey Mountains, adult oriented more than kids and close to Asheville with good sites and good food.

If you want mountains, kid friendly, KOA Cherokee is a great spot.

Oceanside with kids, Ocean Lakes, Myrtle Beach. Has virtually everything one could wish for.
Just checked our bank account, we can retire today if I stop spending money now.

Myrtle Beach Travel Park, North Myrtle Beach, Camp Hatteras, OBX (Rodanthe), Cape Hatteras KOA (Rodanthe). Be prepared for sticker shock but well worth it. I have never stayed at Ocean Waves on OBX but have never heard anything bad about it. It doesn't have a lot of amenities but is much less expensive.

Hunting Island SP in SC, but you have waited a long time. You won't be able to get close to the ocean unless you search about the time someone cancels (Sunday evenings are good).

It is a wonderful, beautiful, unspoiled beach and the campground has wifi in the camp store area (near the ocean), water and electric sites, but no sewer. They have 2 dump stations.

North Carolina, Sadly only has a few oceanfront CGs. The OBX has the best, and there is only 2 other Oceanfront CGs between the OBX, and Myrtle Beach. One on Topsail Island, and one on Holden Beach. Both very small.

However. there are too many mountain CG to narrow it down much. One of our favorites is Raccoone Holler on the Blue Ridge Parkway. A full hookup CG right on the BRP.

For Primitive CGs we like Julian Price, and Linville Falls. Both on the BRP. In Cherokee, Happy holidays is our choice., and near the Ashville area we like Orchard Lake. Closer to Mount Mitchell, near Spruce Pine we like Toe River CG..

South Carolina has some really great oceanfront CGs. All of which you would need to reserve as soon as possible
