We are planning a trip to the Valley of the Sun. Mainly the Mesa area.
Plan on going this October (2015)
We are having a hard time finding a place to stay with our 10 yr. old.
My husband and I are 55+. Would like a clean and affordable. ($500 to $700)
Looking for any help.

Check out Cal Am Resorts (I think the one in Apache Junction is called Superstion) They have a special from Sept-Dec for 895 for all 4 months. I don't know what the monthly rate is though. They are really nice resorts.

Cal-am parks in AZ are 55+ with minimums of 35+ for one as long as one is over 55!

With our 9 year old grand daughter, we stay at KOA's

They tend to be, kid friendly, with stuff for kids to do ( pools play grounds etc). Parks are in general pretty good.

And they tend to have families with kids, which gives the GD the chance to make new friends.

You can join them for something like 30 bucks which gives you 10% of camping fees I believe.

My observation, KOA's near attractions seem to be better than those closer to big cities

Call and ask their rules in the 55+. We have looked at buying a 55+ home and kids were allowed for a certain amount of time.

I stayed a week each on two different trips at Arizona Maverik RV Park. Last time I stayed there they ticked me off so I gave them a less than stellar review. In hind site I was probably just to ticked and shouldn't have been so harsh on them. I would stay there again.

Nope - with ha 10 yr. old Cal-Am does not want you there as a resident. Cildren/grandchildren are welcome to VISIT! but not stay as residents.

Lost Dutchman State Park is a winner! It's gorgeous with big sites. Also, any of the Maricopa County parks are great - Usery would be close to Mesa/Apache Junction.

There is a KOA in Apache Junction just a few miles from Mesa.
