Does anyone have any recommendations for COE sites. I see on the map there are a couple on Lake Sidney Lanier and one called Doll mountain.

We are looking for a place to stay 4-5 days in May. We want to go to Helen and Tallulah Gorge.

Are there any other interesting things in this area. I am not familiar with Georgia at all.

Ivylog offered some good advice for North Georgia. If you are set on COE CG off Lake Lanier use either Duckett Mill or Bolding Mill. Duckett has easier access back to the main highway. Helen is about an hour north of Duckett. Both Duckett and Bolding have beautiful sites with great lake views/access. Both have Water/Elec only. One thing to consider - although season dates vary year-to-year the COE just started keeping Bolding open all year. Duckett closes very early in the year. (early September).
On edit -- you asked about other interesting things in the area --
Toccoa, GA -- where the 501st did boot camp (think Band of Brothers) Toccoa has a very interesting museum dedicated to the Army Air Corp base that was there in the '40's.
Trout fishing -- just outside of Helen is a stocked, trophy stream that has massive rainbow trout. Special regulations apply and reservations required. A very enjoyable experience.

Doll mtn CG is on Carter Lake... Nice enough but in the middle of nowhere and not suitable for seeing Helen... you can't get there and not sure you need to. Helen has seen better days. I would suggest 2 days at Vogel SP (hiking) and 2 at Moccasins Creek SP on Lake Burton (beautiful lake).

Double ditto on Unicoi and Moccasin Creek State Parks. Unicoi, located just a few miles north of Helen has full hookups at some of the creek sites too.

Helen is interesting in spots: Betty's Country Store on the north end of town has some outstanding dry cured bacon at a their deli counter.

Anna Ruby Falls is beautiful and backs up to Unicoi State Park. Just south of Helen is Sautee Nacoochee valley with its pottery museum and arts center. About 35 or so minutes from Helen is Clayton with waterfalls and Lake Rabun.

Bald Ridge Campground and Old Federal are wonderful COE campgrounds on Lake Lanier and not that far from Helen and Tallulah. We spend time at both of them every year even though we live fairly close by in northeast GA.

We loved Bald Ridge Creek COE campground in Cumming. Had a huge water front site on Lake Lanier. The campground is in a great location for seeing N Georgia.

Bolding Mill is a COE campground on Lake Lanier with large W/E sites, many with a view of the lake. It is outside Gainesville and not too far from Helen and Dahlonega (An Appalachian Trail Town). There are a couple of wineries in the area and a lot of great hiking. We were there in October last year and loved it.

Rabun Beach, a USFS is closer. Last time we were there they had elc and water sites in one loop.
