Custer SP?

Sounds like this park has good reviews for a week next June. Using as a home base for all the sights. Would like full hookups. Any comments or thoughts? It sounds like there are several units in the park, which is nicest or most convenient?

Stockade Lake South does have bathrooms and showers available onsite if that helps

We stayed in the Game Lodge campground last month. Very nice and a great dump station and water supply at 43.756452, -103.370539, just outside the campground.

WE were leaving the campground on the way to the dump station and had to navigate around these. My wife was following the RV and took these pictures.

WE stayed at Rafter J which is nice. But back then Custer didn't have electric. If we went again,we would stay in the park. With just 2 of us,we can go 5 days before dumping black water. If we take our showers in the bath houses,grey water isn't an issue either. Make sure you do the wild life loop and Iron Mtn Highway. Other neat things to see outside the par are Bear Country USA,the Cosmos, The Badlands and Wall Drug just for kicks.

No SD State Park offers full hook ups All SD state parks are electric only , primative, with a community water tap and a dump station. Except In Custer State Park there is only one dump station for all 5 camps. If it is not convenient to you, there are options in private parks nearby to dump.

We stayed at Buffalo ridge RV campground and resort in Custer (the city). It's a Good Sam campground, so if you are a Good Sam member, you'll get the 10% discount. Theirs are all full hook-up. The location is good, easy access to just about everything. More than likely you won't be spending much time at the campsite anyway, there is just simply too much to see and do, everything from Sturges to Deadwood to Needles Highway, to Mt. Rushmore, to the Badlands, to touring around the Black Hills. You can also rent ATV's and go, go, go! Way too much to do than sit around a campfire. You can do that at home! Use the campsite as a home base, but I doubt you'll be "home" very much, except to sleep.

Anyway, good luck. You'll enjoy the area, tremendously. (FYI, we were there 2 weeks and still did not see everything we wanted).

Not all sites in Stockade North and South have electric and water - none sewer. This may have changed in the last few years but I doubt it. There is one dump station a Game Lodge and none on the west side of the park. I don't know about Horse Camp.
There is/was a dump station in the town of Custer at the truck stop on the west end of town near the liquor store.
While CSP is a beautiful place to visit and camp, basic amenities are lacking.
We worked there for two years as a host at N and S Stockade CGs

We wanted full hook-up when we were out there. We stayed at Rafter J as our base camp. We loved Custer SP and the area, we spent a week there and still didn't see everything we wanted too. Our main reason was to watch the Buffalo Round-up which is the last Friday of September.

no full hook ups in custer, only dump stations are game lodge and beginning of wild life loop, one in horse camp but they discourage use of that one.

When out in that area a few years back we did not stay in Custer NP, however did get FHU in a great park in the city of Custer. Fort Welikit is a great park worth checking out. www.blackhillsrv.com is there web site
