Glacier trip where to stay

We are planning a trip to the Glacier National Park area next summer. Does anyone have any advise/experiences on where to stay? We are looking for full hookups and our trailer is 35 feet. I have see found the West Glacier and East Glacier KOA's as well as the Town Site campground in Waterton AB. I have two boys in there early teens. We plan on site seeing (red bus) and hiking. Other than that we have no concrete plans.

We have camped at Waterton for years and my biggest suggestion is to reserve at the Waterton Townsite. Go to the federal parks reservation site https://reservation.pc.gc.ca You can reserve starting April 3 8:00AM. Book as early as you can after the web site opens because this past camp season the in-town campground was booked solid throughout the summer. We are taking a similar trip ourselves in 2014 but starting from the Canada side.

Two years ago we went to Glacier National Park. We stayed at Mountain Meadow RV park. Many sites to choose from and well kept park. We recommend to make reservations.

Thanks for all of the tips. We plan on stopping at Mt Rushmore on the way. Spending 4-5 days in the Glacier area and then heading south to Gardiner for 4-5 days in Yellowstone. This will be our longest (mileage) trip, but the whole family is very excited.

Going to Glacier was on my bucket list and we made the trip this summer

We stayed at Mountain Meadow RV Park & Cabins Hungry Horse, Montana. It is close to the west entrance. We made out reservations in March. Our trailer is 34' long and our truck is just a little over 21'. We enjoyed the stay - full hook ups. All of the sites are in the trees. Close to west Glacier and the folks that run the campground were great.

We did the Red Bus Crown of the Continent tour - well worth the $. Left the parking lot at 8:30am and returned at 6:30pm. It was slowed because of the road construction - it should be completed by now. If I had been driving our truck I would have missed allot. We were there in the middle of August and we had to cover with wool blankets (provided by the tour) at the beginning of the trip and took them off a couple of hours later.

We had out 15 year old grandson with us and it was a trip he will remember for years to come.

One day we drove from the campground to to the St. Mary entrance and back to the campground (Highway 2)

Try some huckleberry pie the the Huckleberry Patch.

I do not know how much time you have but Yellowstone is not that far away. We stayed at Rocky Mountain RV Park & Lodging, LLC 14 Jardine Road Gardiner, Montana.

I plotted a trip on Microsoft Street and Trips and it had you going through Rapid City - would be a shame to miss Mount Rushmore.

My Son is currently working at Glacier, I was there in August to visit him, and we drove through West Glacier KOA, very nice, and close to the west entrance of Glacier. We did the red bus tour, Crown of the Continent, excellent! Also, I would highly recommend the zip lining at Whitefish Mtn.,we had so much fun there, did the 7 lines. Your boys would love that! Glacier is one of those places, so beautiful, that you just say OMG!

Near West Glacier entrance, we have stayed at Glacier RV Park and at San-Suz-Ed RV Park. We liked the latter with its roomier sites.

As said above by Dave and Cathy Johnson Campground in St Mary had spectacular views. In the morning we woke up with our RV facing the mountains with the beautiful Alpine Glow. There was a continuous wind blowing day and night. We had no problem getting around with a 37 foot coach and toad which is what we had at that time. The campground itself needs updating. Maintenance is kept to a minimum. The breathtaking view overshadowed the lack of improvements.

We stayed 4 nights at Johnson's of St Mary's on the east side. Don't know what you are looking for as far as amenities but we loved the location and view. We also spent a week inside the park at St Mary's which we really enjoyed but no hook-ups there. We didn't stay at the Town Site campground in Alberta but did drive through when we went up to hike in Waterton. It looked very nice and the location would be great to plan day hikes from there.

By the way, you didn't ask but we prefer the east side because it has more open spectacular mountain views while the west side has more trees and more traffic.
