Little River Canyon - Video

Project to test new gear that I shot at Little River Canyon which is located in northeast Alabama just east of Fort Payne. This river is one of the nation's longest rivers that flows across a mountain top. It changes elevation from 1900 feet above sea level to 650, creating a spectacular gorge system. Best viewed in HD and full screen mode.

Very beautiful looking place. It is now on my list of parks to visit. Thanks for sharing the video. My wife and I have just gotten back into camping after a layoff from it due to our children's high school activities and have been looking at different places to go. With this being about 5 to 6 hours away it would make for a good 3 day trip. Do you have any video on Chea state park around Talledega ?

We used to live downstream on Weiss Lake. You captured this at just the peak time to catch the magnificent views of the flow. Just beautiful....

I think that would be fine. If you are a bit adventurous and want to get to the bottom of the Little River falls go to the overlook and follow the unofficial trail downstream a short ways. It follows the edge of the canyon wall. You will see where folks have climbed down a rock face to get to the river. There are good hand holds and I was able to do it and I had about 30 lbs of camera gear. This guy has a good info website http://www.frankemory.com/articles/lrcnp.html

This was shot in early spring when the river flows are pretty high.

We are currently planning to be there late April and wondered if that is too early?

This is our favorite place in Alabama. We have been camping at Desoto State Park (10 min. from canyon) for 40 years. Thanks for sharing this video.

Great video. We have been there, and our response was "what is this doing here in Alabama?" It is pretty amazing, though it is not near the scale of the Grand Canyon, etc. Having said that, if you are the type that likes to touch a tree, hear the wind, feel waterfall spray on your face, put your hand in the cool water, listen to the gentle sounds of nature, you just might enjoy the place MORE than Grand Canyon.

We camp at Desoto every year. This is one of the most beautiful areas in the south. Lots of good hiking, kayaking if you have the guts to go down the gorge and mtn bike trails. The views from the top are outstanding and the road along the rim is a fun drive. Many waterfalls during the rainy season.
