We like MBSP a lot and appreciate the convenience of a Food Lion across Rt. 17, an easy bike ride to get your groceries.

The planes are noisy to be sure, but we didn't experience any airport noise in the evening.

Some of the sites at HBSP are actually too "open" for us as we prefer the somewhat wooded sites at MBSP.

The seafood in Murrell's Inlet near HBSP is excellent, and we had an excellent meal at "Drunken Jack's". And of course Brookgreen Gardens across the highway from HBSP is definitely worth a day, and the "castle" at HBSP is certainly worth a tour.

Food Lion at MBTP has Diesel and Gas. We use that route instead of the more crowded intersection at Wal-Mart and the Outlet Stores. I leave this week for MBTP, its a favorite of ours. I have never stayed in South Myrtle, I might check that out this year, and look at the State Park.

We go to Skidaway Island SP in GA near Savannah now; that or Ft. McAllister. Myrtle Beach has become too, too touristy for lack of a better word.

One thing about more wooded campsites: they have more biting insects like chiggers, ticks, no-see-ums and mosquitoes. Keep your bug spray on in warm weather.

We love this state park. We will be there in a couple of weeks. We are close enough that this is our go to weekend campground. We get our trailer back after a limb fell through the roof can't wait to go to High Falls.

Will HBSP let you drive thru the campground?
What sites are the most shady and private sites at HBSP?

Once you enter the park you can drive through the campground. The most private are on the back loop it has lots of trees.

We like HBSP better than MBSP - easier access to the beach and larger sites. But we love the location of MBSP - we can ride our bikes everywhere. From HBSP it is about 2 miles to the nearest store but it is an easy ride over to Brookgreen gardens.
Looking forward to new adventures and new friends.

We have made it to Mbsp and I would have to say this is a great park. The airport is close by and you do hear the planes landing and taking off but with young boys it is just and add sight. The park is managed great and the bathhouse are very clean. We still have a few more days here then heading to high falls in Ga. Thanks for all the feed back so far.

We just returned from a week in Myrtle Beach. We stayed at the KOA and loved it but we also spent a whole day in Huntington Beach State Park and Myrtle Beach State Park. Both places are great and have lovely campgrounds. Please click on our blog below and check the last four or five posts which are all about Myrtle Beach. The post on Myrtle Beach State Park has several pictures of the campgrounds (which I walked around for about an hour) and some of the sites--which were not small at all in my opinion. We had an awesome vacation in South Carolina and found good places to eat and fun things to do. If you have any questions please ask.

tbolt2000, there is a vidio on youtube that show a picture of each site along with site number. This is how we pick our site. just hope the picture not misleading.

wxtoad, you posted prices of $26 to $29 at Huntington Beach.Maybe it depends on the time of year and wether you had full hookups or water and electric. But we were just there over Christmas and paid $18 a night for water and electric. We really enjoyed the park. Our site,127 was isolated from other sites which we like.We went to 3 nature programs put on by park employees. The nature center was even open Christmas Day.They have a nice store and the employees were very friendly. You're not too far from Murrel's Inlet where there are a number of good restaurants.

Just got back from a week at MBSP. My family loved it. We did visit Huntington Beach SP while we were down there, a nicer more secluded park for sure, but further from the tourist activities that our kids enjoy. Not that far really. One good thing about the HBSP is it's in a good location for fresh seafood and some really good seafood restaurants. There are some fresh fish markets at Murrel's Inlet that are really good. Got some fresh grouper that was amazing.

As for MBSP, I would def go back. The sites are close together for a SP. We stayed in site 12, a full hookup site. The camp store and the camp hosts were awesome. The employees are great, park is clean, but small. If you enjoy the hiking and outdoors stuff there's not much there. It's a small park nestled in between some of the commercial RV parks.

It is right in the path of the airport. But to be honest I never really noticed much. We leave our AC or fan running pretty much all the time and I never got disturbed by the noise.

From the closest camp sites to the beach it's just a short 5-10 minute walk. The beach is nice, not overly crowded like it is in Myrtle Beach proper. The price was very good. I think I paid $210 total for 5 nights. Keep in mind there aren't very many full hookup sites, so you may have to bring a dump tank if you stay in a site that doesn't have it. The bathrooms were nice...my wife and daughter preferred to shower there to enjoy the endless supply of hot water.

We prob won't go back for a while, but next time we'll do HBSP. And just drive down the strip to the activities when the kids want to do that sort of thing...

We have always enjoyed MB on Memorial Day. But we go in the cg and usually don't leave till ready to come home.
The original comment would be referring I believe to this being "Black Bikers" weekend. It gets really crowded and noisy in spots around town during this time. I think the regular bikers weekend is the weekend before Memorial Day weekend. It makes for some crowded and noisy 2 weeks there. We have never had a problem there on either weekend, but as I said, we stay in the cg the complete time mostly.
