Nashville to Yellowstone

wanted to know attractions to see along the way, have time to stop for several days every 3-400 miles or so.

Also any route better than others scenic v bad grades.

Don't waste your time on Wall Drug. It's just a big building full of overpriced souveneirs and less than great food.

DO stop at the Little Big Horn Battlefield. A beautiful place with a compelling story.

Do you want to travel on interstates or on US Highways like US-20, US-36 or US-50? Do you plan on going as far North as the Dakotas? The most direct interstate route from Nashville to Yellowstone is through Missouri, Nebraska and Wyoming. Along these more Southern routes potential stops are towns like Hannibal(Samuel Clement's birth place), Saint Charles (where the Lewis and Clark expedition started), Wintersett(John Wayne's birth place and home of the Bridges of Madison County), the Amana Colonies, Dodge City, Hutchinson (home of a Space Museum and Salt Mine tour), Fort Kearny (on the Oregon Trail), Thermopolis and Cody. If you provide more information about your route and what kind of things you want to see and do along the way folks can likely give you some viable suggestions.

For trip planning I like to use Microsoft Streets and Trips with the add on Point of Interest data from the Discovery Owners Forum and the POI Factory. Local Chambers of Commerce and Tourist Information/Welcome Centers are good places to find out about local attractions and activities. The book "A Thousand Places to See Before you Die" is a good source as well. To find things to see and do in any specific location, I also use these websites:

We've been to Y'stone from Kentucky several times. Some good stops would be the Badlands, Rushmore and Devil's Tower plus the Crazy Horse memorial. The sky is very impressive at night out there and if it's clear the stars seem to come down to meet you. There are some steep climbs also but doable because we always see dozens of rv's of all types on the mountain grades. Don't let the mountains scare you away from an exhilarating drive.

We like to stop in Wall SD and see Wall drug in the afternoon. The next day we tour he badlands. Then hop down to the black hills and mt Rushmore. That's a start. You can also drive thru the Little Bighorns. Very pretty. Some worry about 14 but I have done it every two years. No issues in any of my coaches. Just learn to drive in the mountains. Downshift to keep up RPMs and downshift to keep down speed.
