RV park and Motel

Hi,
Looking for a campground with full hook up sites and a motel on same grounds. A group of us from different parts of the country have been meeting in June last couple years. Some of us are in RV's, others need a room. We found a nice place last year in Iowa, would like to find another location just for a change. Looking in Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana or maybe Ohio. Any suggestions welcome, Thanks, Dave

Not specific to your area, but last fall we stayed at a KOA in Maine. Friends joined us and rented one of their camping cabins and were actually thrilled by the clean, well equipped, and comfortable cabin. Many KOAs have this feature.

I know of a motel/RV park south of Vinita, Oklahoma; another just west of Louisiana, Missouri. Have seen a lot on eastern Kansas, Illinois, Missouri, western Indiana: corn country. Motels are used by harvesting crews in season. Most of the locations I've seen are pretty bleak for family gatherings, accommodations are for people working hard 16 hours a day, just sleeping on off hours, so not much in recreational facilities.

Suggest looking for (rather than motels) :

Family campgrounds with both cabins and RV sites, such as KOA and Jellystone, and others non-franchised.

RV parks or resorts with rental trailers (some membership resorts are in this in a big way, kind of a condo trailer thing).

State parks with cabins. I see these everywhere, CCC built a lot of cabins when they were building parks in 1930s. Some states have kept it up. Cabins may not be in same place as RV campgrounds, which tend to be 50-80 years newer than either cabins or tenting areas, but there will be common places everybody can get together, picnic shelters or meeting rooms. Our family has been doing reunions in state parks since late 1940s, Ohio and Pennsylvania, but many other states have similar facilities.

In-laws, oldest daughter's family, finds park facilities like this in Arkansas, Texas, and Louisiana. I suspect more states have them, if you check websites for park systems in Ohio, W Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee.

I forgot to mention, but most all of Virginia's state parks have cabins to rent. I know the cabins at Natural Tunnel State Park are as nice as most houses with hardwood floors, nice bathrooms, gas fireplaces

Fall Creek Falls State Park in Tennessee has camping sites (quite a few are fhu), a lodge/restaurant, and cabins all on site. Some of the cabins are even built over the lake. Lots of hiking trails and, of course, the water falls.

There are also many RV parks that have cottages or cabins or rv's for rent all within the park boundries.

Lone Duck campground in Colorado Springs (right at the bottom of Pikes Peak). Not really a "motel" but they have individual cabins mixed in with the RVs right on their private lake.

If you and your friends have never been to Graceland and are interested in going, the RV Park is next to the Heartbreak Hotel and right across the street from Graceland.
Safe travels!

I would suggest Pine Mountain RV Resort in Pigeon Forge, TN. It is owned and operated by the owners of the Main Stay Suites that is just across a small country road. You have access to all the amenities of the hotel (indoor and outdoor pool, lazy river pool, breakfast buffet, etc.)

We have stayed many times there and my sister comes down from Ohio and her and my parents will stay in the hotel. Works great and there is lots and lots to do in the area.

A lot of KY State Parks have camping and Cabins, even lodges. Might try them.

Thanks! That is just what we are looking for!

This looks like a nice spot for our gatherings. Thanks for the HT.

Very nice place is Redshoes Resort at Coushatta, Kinder, LA. It's about 20 miles north of the 10, and the RV park and cabins are on the grounds of a nice size casino. Also, not far away is Paragon Casino Resort in in Marksville, LA (older cabins).
If your group wants Disney, try Kissimmee, and The Tropical Palms, or the KOA.
