My wife and I are planning on spending a month or two in San Antonio this winter and would like your opinions on RV parks in the area. Can anyone recommend an RV park from personal experience?

When selecting an RV Park/Resort we do not stay at the Corporate Parks. They do not post Rates and pertinent information. You must visit/call. I have a problem with a business that hides their charges and fees. Email? Best results is 2-3 days the email goes to a corporate drop box. I had questions on a Sun Park in Florida and the agent was in Michigan. We only stay at Parks owned by independent owners. We who stay at parks have become more or less a commodity to these Corporate Parks and not customers. Sun is not the only Corporate Conglomerate out there. This is strictly our personal opinion.

Very nice and clean.

I would not recommend staying in the Sun Communities RV Resort as some have said on this site. They have really let the Tree Tops Rv park in Arlington go down hill. Oh, they've got the "front office" area looking really nice, but the rest of it is in bad shape. We've heard the same thing about the Sun Community park in San Antonio.

We've stayed at Oak Wood RV Park in Fredricksburg, it's an older park, but it's clean.

We've also stayed at Fredericksburg RV Park in Fredericksburg. http://fbgrvpark.com/ These sites are really close together, you actually step out of your rig and onto the neighbors' sewer connections. We will not stay there again.

If you do go there MAKE SURE TO FOLLOW THEIR DIRECTIONS!!! If you take the GPS route you may rip out the underside of your rig. Unless it's fixed on the north side is a railroad track with a steep up and down. Very likely you will tear something out if you take that route.

This for sure. Do not use E Southcross Blvd from I-37. I made it over that rail crossing OK, but would not do it again. If arriving (or leaving) by I-37 use SE Military Drive a little farther south.

My next door neighbors sold everything they owned, bought a huge RV, and became full timers. They come back to San Antonio for about two months every year. Every time they stay at the Blazing Star RV Resort. They like it a lot. I have visited them out there. It is not my kind of place (I like state parks), but it has all the amenities and is very well maintained. It is on the outermost loop (1604) with easy access to highways to get you wherever you want to go in the city. It is close to restaurants and any kind of store you want.

The above is where we stay when we're in the area. Have only stayed a week or less though never 1-2 months.

Spent Thanksgiving there once even. Good group of people and owners. Outside sites are narrow, pool is smallish, nice laundry, on bus line, had a nice Hispanic restaurant across the street.

On edit:

I'll also add that I left the park in a hurry once and forgot my power pack behind. They were nice enough to get it, box it up, and then mail it to me when I got to my end point. That was my first time there, and they earned my business ever since.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. We had originally put Castroville and the Travelers World on our short list and I will check into the other sites as well.

We would definitely recommend the Buckhorn Lakes RV Park in Kerrville. Nice spaces, dog park, small store, and they even have bus trips to various restaurants.
We also love the Alsation RV Park just outside of Castroville. It is about 30 minutes west of San Antonio. Nice restaurant, pool, golf course, nice concrete spaces and they even bring you a nice table and chairs for your patio.

We stayed a few days at Travelers World RV Resort in San Antonio a few years ago and would again. Good base to sightsee San Antonio and surrounding area.

Apparently a popular place for snowbirders as it was early April and the owners were hosting an end of season dinner for those snowbirders preparing to start their migration back north.

If you need to be in San Antonio proper, we've stayed in the KOA there a couple of times just overnight and found it to be very good. Fredericksburg is very nice, but it is 80 miles west of San Antonio.

we've stayed at the KOA in Fredericksburg (nice), the Lady Bird Johnson RV Park also in Fredericksburg (OK) and the KOA in Kerrville (OK). if I had to choose from those three it would be a toss-up between the two in F'Burg. Lady Bird is next to a small airport and I'm a general aviation pilot so...but the KOA is a nicer park. the KOA in K'ville is OK in and of itself but it borders a very sketchy neighborhood (at least it did when we were last there about 8-yrs ago).
