We've been to Skidaway which is certainly a nice park, but actually prefer Fort McAllister State Park in nearby Richmond Hill (just south of Savannah). We found it easier to get to the historic area of Savannah from Fort McAllister SP.

My favorite is Skidaway Island State Park. In the woods, lots of shade, sites spaced well apart, an easy drive to town.
