We are planning our road trip and our first stop is the Shenandoah Valley, VA & WVA. What are the must see and do in this area? Please share!!! 😉 Thank you!

Spend a couple days at Pegasus Farm Campground. in Elkins, West VA. This is a great place run by a great couple.

Shenandoah National Park/Skyline Drive is quite lovely. If you exit on Rt. 250 going east, you should see Charlottesville, VA. Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson is magnificent, his neighbor James Monroe's Ash Lawn is nice as well. Eat lunch at the Michie Tavern close by. If you had the time, just a bit further is Montpelier, home of James Madison is in Orange County. The Shenandoah Valley is really nice and if you stay off of I-81 and take the old road, Rt. 11, it is a lot more peaceful. We've stayed at most of the campgrounds in the area and all are pretty nice. Enjoy your trip.

Best hike = Old Rag

If possible do it during the week and start very early in the day. On weekends it is a very busy trail. On a nice weekend day you will be standing in line at some of the scrambles waiting for the people ahead of you. Early in the morning on a week day you will have the mountain to yourself.

Also check out Rapadan Camp, it is the former presidential retreat before Camp David.

Being avid tent campers from back in 60s living in the Arizona areas all we really look for is just old fashion camping with scenic views. Not so much for the physical places you can go visit.

The valley of course has the larger rivers access type of camping surrounded by mountains on each side of it.

We actually prefer the higher country and can almost get lost in the OFF-ROAD Camping aspect of it... This area has some great get-away by yourself type camping places...

My OFF-ROAD POPUP camper can go any place my 4X4 truck will pull it both valley and high country access.

When driving into unfamiliar places we always use GOOGLE Maps and search for RV CAMPGROUNDs giving us many places to look at... Lots of great things to see and do in the Shenandoah Valley locations.

Have never camped North of MD but have followed the Blue Ridge South and really love the high country of VA-NC-TN-GA-AL... WVA also has alot of high country as well but have only touched a few of those places...

Different things for different folks I reckon... Your smaller TT trailer tells me alot of what you like to do haha... My OFF-ROAD POPUP camper has all of the modern things inside but just doesn't have alot of move around room inside. We watch HDTV however whenever we want to haha...

When we get the urge to RV Travel we head for the East Coast locations down to Gulf Coast locations or go spend a week at the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge TN type locations or Myrtle Beach in SC.

ALways try to blend these type of trips with visiting our immediate families who live in these areas which includes heading for North Texas sometimes...

In the Shenandoah Valley and central Virginia there are many civil war battle fields, historic homes, and towns to visit. This area is loaded with good wineries to tour. The WWII D-Day memorial at Bedford is awe inspiring. Day trips on the Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway are very picturesque. Grand Caverns and Luray Caverns, and several others are worth the trip. Depending on the time of year there are lots of festivals showcasing local arts and crafts. You won't be bored.

All of those!!! We don't want to limit the possibilities! We like trying new things and going new places. If we tell what we like we are programming the responses. We are open minded, adventurous, spontaneous people,with lots of interests and hobbies. We have a great sense of humor and enjoy most things and make the best of all things! Okay so: Car shows, boat shows, RV shows, Art shows, flea markets, music festivals, ethnic festivals, pride events..... Things that might be local happenings. We LOVE it all!

We are headed to Shenandoah Acres this Memorial Day. One of my camping buddies used to go there as a kid, they have since closed and just recently reopened, if I remember correctly. He loved the place and has been pushing us to go for some time now.

Luray Caverns is down there, but its a disappointment to me because I still remember the Carlsbad Caverns. My wife liked it. Its beautiful country out there, plenty of views from Skyline Dr, hiking and biking as well.

The Shenandoah River State Park in VA has a nice modern RV campground with water and electric at each site. Large level sites. Nice views of the mountains and access to the River.
