As retired full timers when we travel, we prefer to park the motor home and do "day trips". Our MH is our mobile hotel so we like a campground with full hook ups, and good cable. We like the RV park to be near major roads that we will be using to tour the area. We will be in the Texas Hill Country, the second week of April for 2-3 weeks. I am looking for information on where to stay. We like, wineries and breweries, scenic drives, shopping in different shops.. and sight seeing.
I have looked at RVPark reviews and there are too many choices. can anyone help me with their favorites?

Thanks

Don't want to hijack the thread, but what is considered "high season" in the Texas Hill Country area?

I can hardly wait. We're usually lucky to be able to camp for two or three nights at a time but my wife finally retired this year so we plan to get out a lot more. Look forward to meeting you at the rally.

Like the Fredricksburg, the Johnson Ranch etc. area but it's 80 miles or so from Austin, if you are going to be touring the city.
We stayed just west, of Austin in an RV Resort, in the hills but I can't retrieve the name. Surprising how much cooler just a few hundred feet were. There were several on the hill tops.
We get the chance, I want to set up, in the area and see several, of the little towns. Long way between many or to anywhere. I like that Hill Country and Big Bend too.

Will be seeing penman over at the Fredericksburg RV park at the Open Range Texas Rally. The wild flowers along the Texas highways should be awesome by then. We were over at the Kerrville,KOA about a week and a half ago and the wild flowers were just starting to sprout out. Kerrville KOA was just an alright spot to overnight, just happened to be close to some relatives. Fredricksberg is a great place to visit and also to use as a home base. Enjoy...............cC

We stayed at Kerrville a couple months this winter and enjoyed with many activities tailored to the full timers of the winter season. Guadalupe River RV Resort http://www.guadaluperiverrvresort.com/ is a little older and cheaper than Buckhorn but may be the second best in the region. It was handy for us as were in the middle of San Antonio - Fredericksburg-LBJ Ranch area. The people of the park were friendly and fair.

We'll be at the Fredericksburg RV Park the first weekend in April for an Open Range owners rally. We have 30 spaces booked with a waiting list. I'm not sure how many spaces (not booked for the rally) are available, if any. I have not stayed there before but our Rally Wagon Master is familiar with the park and says it is great.

We spend a week in the spring and a week in the fall at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park in Fredericksburg and love it. Full hook ups for about $30 a day or $175 a week. We will be down there the week before Easter. You can make reservations by calling the park office.

When we went to San Antonio in February we stayed at The Travelers Rest RV Park:
2617 Roosevelt Ave.
San Antonio, Texas 78214
(210) 532-8310
It is a nice place which is close to a Mission (About 1 mile), The Alamo and the River Walk (about 3 miles). It is safe, attractive and friendly.

We have stayed at Hill Country RV Resort in New Braunfels and really enjoyed it. It is about a block and half off of I-35. I think exit 184.

Buckhorn Lake in Kerrville. Excellent choice. Easy access, big rig friendly.
Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park in Fredricksburg. Full hook ups. Nice quiet park.
Admiralty RV Resort in San Antonio. Near the entertainment triangle consisting of Six Flags over Texas, the San Antonio Zoo and Sea World San Antonio. See the Alamo and the Caverns while there....Dennis
