There is not many places like this left

This is one of my favorite camping/kakaying/fishing spots (Northwest Arkansas). We usually camp upstream, float down and takeout here. There is not many of these old bridges left.

Fishing is usually good. Lots of smallmouth bass. I have caught 30 or 40 in one day and I have caught nothing. That's fishing.

Ah, reminds me of my childhood days in NW Ark (Fayetteville). 🙂 Fished and floated many a river like that. Thanks for the neat reminder.

The old bridges sure do have character. Arkansas is a beautiful state and plan on retiring some day there if plans work out.

Looks very similar to a bridge over the Salmon River East of Stanley Idaho which (coincidentally) leads to one of my favorite camp sites. Biggest difference is the 90 degree turns just before and just after the bridge.

Looks like it still does, they just laid blacktop over the boards.

We still have several operating covered bridges in the county here, plus a couple that are closed but preserved.

I remember bridges like that going over the Colorado River at 183 in Austin, going over the Colorado over Bastrop, and finally over the Colorado yet again in La Grange. The 183 bridge still is in use, feeding cars from Lamar/Montopolis, the Bastrop bridge is now a pedestrian walkway, and I am not curious of what the fate is of the bridge in La Grange now.
