Vallecito Resort in Colorado

Really disappointed at the management of this "campground." Made reservations several weeks ago to stay 7 days during the July 4th week. I requested & was told that I would be in a pull-thru site. When I arrived, they had placed me in a site adjacent to a building with NO WAY to pull around it, due to retirement trailers behind it. THIS WAS NOT A PULL-THRU SITE. When I inquired about the two sites next to it, I was told they were "reserved." They were empty for the first three nites I was there. The only other side was a "back in" site that I was shown. NO WAY was I getting a 31' 5er into that site. Also behind my site was the "community bldg" where they had people coming & going, some walking thru our site. Vallecito Resort is actually PART RETIREMENT VILLAGE, SUMMER CAMP w/CABINS AND PART CAMPGROUND. I feel I was lied to when I made my reservation or else someone changed my reserved site before I arrived. Bottom line is lesson learned. Our vacation was fantastic despite this particular campground AND I will never camp there again. Good service or the lack of it determines how successful one is. I don't see this campground succeeding ( many of the retirement campers were for sale ).

For those that have been up to the lake area, what the cell coverage like at various campgrounds around the lake? I work remotely from the RV and we're considering heading up there for a month in early August. Need at least voice with AT&T or Verizon and a good wifi, or good 3G signal with AT&T for both.

Been camping up at Vallecito lake since I was knee high to a grasshopper. While we have never stayed at either Blue Spruce or Vallecito Resort it is one of our favorite lakes to camp at. We choose the FSCG's on the north side of the lake. Have been up there 5 times this summer already. Like jbilling stated, lake is full, landscape is lush & green and plenty of rain the last couple of weeks. Gods country. There is also 5 Branches Camper Park at the north end if you don't care for Vallecito resort.

Amazing. We were there over 10 years ago and had similar issues with the management and end up never checking in. We end up driving a hour away to a nice RV park. I would think over the years they would have figured out the customer
service issues they lacked.

This is our 2nd year at Blue Spruce RV Park. It is really one of the best run and nicest RV parks we have found in over 8 years of extended travels--about 5000 miles a year. It does have beautiful tall pine trees and you will have to move around a few of them--depending where your site is. We have a 38 foot 5th wheel--in a back in site--no problem getting in. I have been coming to the lake for over 55 years--yes the fire did hurt along with the recession. But business appears to be getting more active--new places to eat, etc. But the scenery and hiking is the best in the world! Fishing is also great. That may not be what you want but it sure beats South Texas in July and August.

I was in Vallecito last week in prep for a church youth camp out in 2 weeks and the lake is full and the mountains are green. The area did suffer from a tragic wild fire a few years ago but the new growth is encouraging. The Blue Spruce RV park is about 80% capacity at this time. I think that Blue Spruce is nicer park with good sized spaces and quite a lot of pull through spots. Enjoy your stay. Jeff

There was a major fire in this area a few years ago and as a result it suffered from a scenery point of view. Additionally as I'm sure you know Lauren, this area has suffered from drought condition for several years as a result the lake is drawn way down in the fall of the year and that makes the situation even more undesirable.

The entire Vallecito Lake area seemed to be going down hill and I intend to never visit that area again.

Were thinking of visiting that area for a week - staying at Blue Spruce. What is happening to this area?

Thanks.

I find that RV Park Review only post those comments that they consider to be positive. This month my son and I attempted to stay at a highly recommended site in a Wyoming community and found that drug dealings were going on at the site in broad daylight and traffic was constant. Conditions change rapidly when the local economy changes such as an influx of energy workers.
We continued on into Nebraska and found a wonderful quiet city park in a small community some 60 miles away from the initial site. There was no mention of this park in RV Park Review and I won't be advertising it either.

I attempted to stay at Vallecito Resort a couple of years ago and finally left in frustration. The management was very poor and the campground is old and quite out of date. The entire Vallecito Lake area seemed to be going down hill and I intend to never visit that area again.
