Water along the way

We will be leaving Ontario for Arizona and points beyond and probably on up to Surrey B.C. Last time we did this I had trouble locating water along the route , stopped at several rest stops and asked if we could fill our fresh water tank but there didn't seem to be any outside taps in them to hook up a hose. Any suggestions? We Mostly stop at rest stops or boondock for overnight. The black and grey tanks have more capacity than the fresh tank, so not as much need to dump. Thanks

I usually get water at a flying j once I get into warmer temperatures. The fill is free when you get gas.

Having encountered that problem at some State parks where they only have a well with a hand pump, I installed a gravity feed inlet hooked to one of the breather tubes and I carry two 5 gallon collapsible potable water cans, now I can use a garden hose with pressure or gravity feed the tank, even if the faucet is not accessible with a hose I am able to get water, you might want to check on doing something like that.

Why not spend a couple bucks and stay at an RV park for a night or two?

They usually are NOT along the curb side. Many are further inside near the picnic area. Sometimes you have to get out to look for them, but I've always managed to find them at the rest stops. That's why I carry a couple or rolls of hose with me to reach them.

Thanks that's what I thought too but we couldn't find them ,but your right I usually just look at the front, back & sides of the buildings didn't think of picnic areas.

Assuming you are coming down during the winter months you may want to use an "open all year" campgrounds once or twice to fill your FW tank and dump, that and using bottled water should be good.

In our run from Ontario to southern California each winter we stay in RV parks and have had no trouble finding open parks, but that's the way we like to travel.

With "free" electricity overnight we also save on propane

Thanks for the replies we are going to be using 94-55-44-40 to get to Alamo Lake S.P then on up to BC . We went to the same place last year but will be using a more direct route this time, depending on weather.

look for potable water at the gas pumps, not at the dump stations at Flying J and Love's. Also for a fee most campgrounds will allow you to dump and fill up your water tank. We use bottled water on the road (gallon jugs) for drinking, cooking, tea, coffee and brushing teeth. We only use the water in the holding tank for flushing the toilet and showers. We keep our water tank half full. If you provide your route perhaps you can get more detail on this forum about where to stop for water.
