We currently live near Trenton in NJ. One of our favorite campgrounds that we stay at each year is Otter Lake in the Poconos in PA. (In fact, that’s where I’m posting from now!) I’m looking for other campgrounds in the general mid-eastern seaboard area with lakes (bonus for lakeside sites and one with a bit more space between sites - hate the “RV parking lot” campgrounds...) What are some favorites you have found?

Tough to beat Otter Lake, I wish we were there too! Enjoy your stay at one of my favorite family owned and operated rv parks. Such a terrific setting in the Pocono's. All built by an owner with a vision and the determination to make it happen.

Busskipper,

Are you referring to Sunset park CG near Cato, NY? If so, I personally would think twice about going there. Lost of seasonals, bugs and beer on w/e.

Pretty sure the Link I posted goes to Oswego, NY right on the Great Lakes.

Small Local and right across from some famous Fish and Chips.

Map - Sunset RV Park

Not sure how you could mix them Up.
And, 2 miles from my house! Great sunsets, and you can't beat Rudy's for a fish sandwich. Not a "Resort" campground, but if you get a front row site (on grass) you will have great views of the lake.

As to another suggestion, check out Ricketts Glen State Park in PA. Dry camping, but bathrooms with showers. Two campgrounds, one of which is near the lake. The real attraction for me (and what makes it my favorite state park) is the 22 waterfalls along the stream from the lake. A great hike with the mix of waterfalls & cascades.

Several of the New York state park campgrounds are on lakes (some on a genuinely great lake). I like the campadk.com campsite photo databasee for checking them out. They have some waterfront/lakeside ratings and categories for the campgrounds (and individual sites).

Here are a couple to add to your list - MD -http://dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/Pages/western/rockygap.aspx

And - PA - https://www.recreation.gov/camping/tompkins/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NRSO&parkId=73446

Also think about Lake Placid in NY usually around August, so the water is warm 😉 Sunset RV park on the Lake in Oswego, NY Lake Ontario - http://sunsetrvpark.net/

Best of Luck,

Out of your area - Grand Lake in Colorado - Lake Toxaway in NC. - Lake Powell in Utah and Lake Mead in NV. Flaming Gorge in Wyoming

Lot's of great lake spots -

Clute Park at the bottom of Seneca Lake in Watkins Glen NY. Great little park on the lake across the street. Wal*Mart next door, several wineries around the lake to visit. Check the racing schedule before you go.

Promised Land State Park in PA. We stay in the Pickerel Point campground which is a peninsula on the lake. It's beautiful, well maintained and has full-hookup sites really close to the water. We go every Columbus Day weekend and have to book our sites immediately when the window opens for the following season (I set my calendar to remind me at midnight). The sites go quick! It has a beach, but since we go in October we don't swim. Great fishing, too (I don't fish but our camping friends do). It's pretty secluded so count on your cell phone not working (not that that's a bad thing).

I discovered Park Station campground in Chemung County, NY a couple of years ago. It is a lakefront CG, very well designed with large, well spaced sites, with 30 amp electric at each site. They have a website which has pics of each site, and this year you can reserve on line. It's a good place to explore nearby Corning, NY, or head north to Watkins Glen and the Finger Lakes area.

In PA, Codoris State Park (near Hanover), Raystown (near Huntington), and Gifford Pichot State Park (near Dover) just off the top of my head.
