What rights do campers have in regards to reservations.

We have been spending the last eight years on the Parker Strip in Arizona for the month of March. We meet with about seven other friends every year. The people who are in our spot always leave at the end of Feb. My wife got a call from the RV Park today and the girl at the desk said we were going to have to move about a quarter mile north from our friends because the people want to stay another month. Do we have any recourse? We already paid in full.

In the parks I have worked at( several in the past 7 years) the people already on the site would be told they are welcome to stay, but they must move to another available site because the one they are on is already reserved for the month of March and not available. They are not handling this in the proper manner and I would call and politely ask why the above is not how it is being handled. It is possible there was a new employee involved who did not know the proper way this should be handled.

This is not a matter of "rights" but what is "right." The post above makes perfect sense to me in terms of what is "right." I have been asked to move under these circumstances because the site I was in had already been reserved. I did not like to move, but thought this was necessary and perfectly appropriate. I do agree that this campground is not handling this in the proper manner because it is just not "right," not that "rights" have been violated.

JMO, but if you paid for that site specific & have a confirmation for that particular site then the onus is on the people who want to extend a month to move to another site for the month.

What is the big problem? Both of you have wheels. If somebody at the CG made a mistake, well, that happens to the best of us.

We aren't stupid. We won't talk about our rights. I will find out what my legal rights and have an attorney send a letter. They have had our money for nine months. Why is the guy at asking for the spot nine months after we paid for it and getting preference?

"I will find out what my legal rights and have an attorney send a letter"

Maybe you are stupid after all. A lawyer is more "gas on the fire" than talking about "rights"

As I wrote before, how have you been damaged? Give me a $ amount. In short I do not think you have any LEGAL rights. You need the campground to as a part of "good will" to ask the other camper to move. Use honey not vinegar.

If anything and I owned a campground / park which I don't.

In such a situation if I received a letter from someones attorney so be it. That persons name would go on a list and they would never be staying at my park again, even if I had to circumvent (ignore) some gubmint imposed hospitality law to prevent them from doing so.

As a business owner I would be thinking what would be next? If a person goes to such lengths over a reservation would they trip over a piece of gravel or the fire ring, and be suing my park?

This year I suggest you and your friends head to Pahrump, NV instead this year...(unless you'd planned on going to Parker for the boat races). There's 20 RV parks in Pahrump; casinos, big box stores, great weather though not as warm in March as Parker. Still, revenge can be sweet if you can let the owners of the park know that you are all moving on, and why.

It's obvious to me, they value the bird in hand versus two in the bush. The guy there has the local advantage.

Get your friends on the horn, cancel all reservation and find someplace nicer.

Unless there is some fine print I would have ALL in your group ask for a refund so you can enjoy a different park.

This all varies by state too. In Florida I think the Dept of Agriculture handles consumer complaints but have no idea what the situation is with AZ.

I'd demand to speak to the manager anyway, not take the word of whatever flunky is at the phone. Point out you are a long term loyal customer and deserve to be treated well. If that doesn't work tell them you want a full refund, talk to your friend about them doing the same. And point out that you will spread the word far and wide that this park is to be avoided in the future. Say you are active here, there are thousands of RVers reading this here, that you will post a hostile review on rvparkreviews and every travel site that you can find. Remind them that one angry customer can cause them to lose 20 other customers. Do this calmly without a temper show.

Keep in mind the absolute truism that the squeaky wheel gets the grease. I've been doing this sort of thing for years and 95 percent of the time it works. Be very pleasant when they are and not so pleasant otherwise. It drives my wife mad sometimes but she would be the carpet people wipe their feet on without saying a thing to their face. But complaint bitterly later to the family, that's too late and does no good at all.

I agree.

We have been asked to move (very politely and reasonably) because the site was reserved, and we wanted to stay longer. If it wasn't already reserved, we've never been asked to move, of course.

Look up renters rights in Az and what the contract says? If no contract you have an implied contract. Many states Small Claims Courts have remedies for breaches.

I. LONG TERM RV SPACE RENTALS (MORE THAN 180 DAYS)

A. Applicable Law
The Arizona RV Long-Term Rental Space Act beginning at Section 2101 of Title 33,
Arizona Revised Statutes, applies to the rental of a space to a tenant who provides his own
RV and rents an RV space for more than 180 consecutive days provided there are more than
two RV spaces in the park. Rentals for less than 180 consecutive days, and rentals in
communities with only one or two RV spaces are covered by the General landlord tenant
laws. This law was originally enacted in 2000. It was extensively revised and renumbered
in 2001. http://www.michaelparhamlaw.com/f/RV_Space_Rentals.pdf

It's up to the parks policy. What were the terms? If nothing is in writing, and signed by management, you probably have little recourse. Pushing the issue, or having an attorney send a letter, might have you looking for other accomodations in Short order.

Are you prepared to come from another state and go into litigation with a local business over a campsite?

Hi,

I am forced due to cold to park at a campground. I know their electrical system is weak as water and I've deliberately booked a site nearly six months in advance where I'm close to the breaker panel.

They moved me. There is no recourse.

Fortunately I do have an autoformer to compensate for their (poor) wiring.
