JC Refrigeration 12 volt compressor cooling unit

Well our cooling unit has failed, pretty sure no cooling on gas or electric. Noticed some dreaded yellow powder and a slight smell of ammonia.
So now looking at the JC Refrigeration 12 volt compressor cooling unit. I have the room for it, and it seems like it should work better then the absorption unit.
Are there any members that have real world experience with one of there units?
Our refer is a Dometic RM2862, the replacement unit runs $785, install is $0.00 as I will do myself.

We replaced the cooling unit 8/3/2018, so got just over four years out of a new unit. A new absorption unit runs $740, and a rebuilt is $450. That puts the cost on par with absorption unit.

We full Time and mostly park host, so almost always have power, we have two Interstate SRM-27 batteries in parallel, if without power.

OP, wondering if you have any updated info on usage? How many Amp Hours do you estimate the unit uses?

Furnace alone T-stat at 65, outside low 30’s ran all night, on a single five year old SRM 27. Now run two in parallel, I didn’t see an issue. That was for a nine day period, charged during the day.

Your SRM 27 deep cycle batteries are NOT true deep cycle batteries but are RV/Marine batteries. They are compromise batteries. On a cold night they would probably NOT run the furnace and the refrigerator all night. The furnace blower is a high amp draw item.

Not sure where you got $500 for shipping, it was $95, I also got a $150 discount as my four year old adsorption unit failed.

We shall soon see how well it works.

For that much money I'd buy a 10 cu.ft 12V compressor fridge. I've had my GE 9.8 cu.ft 12V compressor fridge for 3 season and it's been flawless. It's a little power hungry but I have solar and a gen when needed so it works out fine.
The added room going form 8 cu.ft to 10 cu.ft is well worth the swap out. All 12V 10 cu.ft fridges are pretty much plug n play.

Last fall I drove to Shipshewana and had them swap my norcold NX8. It took them 1.5 hrs from start to finish. I rooled in at 8am and was on the road for home by 10:00. No regrets. They did a stellar job and I could not see any sign they had been in my camper. They did the swap on the floor of my unit.

I would think there would be a few more members that have made the move to the 12 volt compressor system.

We don’t boondock, only need to deal with the occasional power outage we have two Interstate SRM 27 deep cycle batteries in parallel, that should run the refer over night and the furnace.

Good link, Yes, understand what "your" needs and power requirements are when boondocking, then choose what fits for you.

I am on my second JC conversion (two different rvs) I will never go back to the old way.:C Install is easy if you read and understand the directions.:B Our present refer is a 4 door Dometic and has two compressors. One for the fridge and one for the freezer a much better arrangement for a large fridge. I do have 1000 watts of solar and a 400 AH lithium battery.
All in all I say got for it you will never look back!!:B
