Can I walk on top of slide?

I am in the process of replacing my slide toppers and did the bedroom slide using ladders. I have a friend lined up to help me with the dining/living slide in the next few days. I am sure that we can do it using ladders, but it looks like it might be easier if one of us was on top of the slide. Can I stand on top of the slide unit without causing damage to the slide? Thanks for your input.

I know I was reading of one manufacturer (Wildcat, maybe) that said you could walk on theirs. I don't think I could do it, though.

I wouldn't do it! Here are the reasons why.......

Really depends on camper construction and it might also vary depending on floor plan. I had 2 Fleetwood Terry products that no way unless you wanted a new skylight. Walked all over my Travel Supreme, Kountry Star, and Mobile Suites without issue.

If I were to try----
Very carefully put weight at edges and slowly work towards center being aware of any sounds like cracking or flex in the roof.

That's what I was thinking...not sure being on the slide would make it any easier. Just one of many reason why I always buy new

I would not and here's why: almost all slides are built the same. There is support along the outer edges along the walls. As you near the center and along the coach itself, the only support available is whatever type header the manufacture has put in. Have you not seen pictures of slides that sag in the middle? This can usually be seen on the inside. As the slide sags in the middle, it no longer seals properly and you get water intrusion. The longer the slide is, the more likely you could cause damage causing the slide to sag in the middle.

Would you stand on the center of a 14' 2x4 suspended at each end. That is similar to what you are doing if you put your weight (around 230 in my case) on the inside edge of the slide roof near the slide cut out in the trailer wall.

If I had to work up there I think I would cut a couple 2x4 post, carpet the ends and place/wedge them inside the trailer to support the load in the area.

I walk on mine whenever I need to. I don't jump or shag but it has never caused any problems.

Thanks for the input. I think I will stick with using ladders. Not worth risking damage to the slide.
