I am looking for a fifth wheel hitch, and saw a Curt A16 Anyone using one ? how do you like it ? Thanks
I got my 5er last year and bought a Curt Q20 to go in my OEM 5th wheel puck mounts. The dual jaw hitch works well, hitching is pretty easy, and the tilt in both x and y axis makes it very smooth. It's quiet operating and so far I have no issues.
One minor thing I've found is if you're back against the jaws with too much pressure the handle doesn't want to release when you're unhitching. I don't know if this is common to all 5er hitches (or maybe just dual jaw), but if I let the truck rock loose just a little the handle releases just fine. Aside from that small thing it has been flawless.
Cummins is right, the B&W is a very fine hitch and is American made. I was in a position that I had to save money where I could. I had no 5th wheel provision in my truck, so I had to either install a B&W gooseneck @ $439 or I could get the RAM OEM 5th wheel prep kit for $225. Next I had to choose a 5th wheel hitch. I could choose the B&W Companion for $879 for a total over $1300 (gooseneck + hitch), or the B&W RVK3600 to use with the factory mounts for $1150 and total $1375. Or, I could get the factory mounts ($225) and a Curt Q20 for $750. I went the Curt option and saved at least $300. I know in the grand scheme that is not a huge amount of money, but I had already spent a lot at that point and the $300 made a difference in what I was able to afford.
BTW, if you put a Curt Q20 and a MOPAR 20K hitch side by side they are identical. Either both are buying from a supplier and re-branding, or Curt is making them and MOPAR is slapping on a label.
