I recall my mom saying she would never pay more for a car than she did for their house. They paid $14K in 1952. She would be buying a used car in todays market.

Oh a funny topic. Home is where the heart is. Home base can be many things or any where. Home in your RV is priceless.

Ahhh - what does this have to do with *Fifth Wheels"?

Silly question, but I'll answer anyway - the first house in So. CA the DW and I purchased in 1971 (about 1600 sq ft) cost a whopping twenty two thousand dollars.

It was about a year old, the owner was being transferred to MN, so
he carried a $2K second and I pd him $500 cash (which I got with my credit card) and financed the remainder.

That same house sold recently for close to a mil.

The house I live in now, I purchased in 1987 for $217 thousand, which is about two miles from my first house.

The homes on my street sell for around a mil also - depending on the model, sq ft, etc.

In 1985 I bought a 1T Ferd crew cab diesel - which was WAY less than
the house I bought 2 years later in 1987.

But to answer your Q - *NO* my 2005 truck cost WAY less than the house I live in now (even in 2005), and it sure hasn't appreciated in value like the house..:R

BTW - couldn't afford to buy my own house now, wish I had bought two "back when" - - but could still afford a new truck (if I wanted one).

So there ya have it..:W

Actually it did but it was a "fixer-upper" & when we got finished the 1st time could have bought at least 3 or more of the 2012 I drive. Problem is you never get done even after 18 years, lots of dollars down a money pit.

No, not even close but it did cost more than my first house in the 1980's at around $65k... Scary thought.

No... but, I bought my truck in 2003. :C

Just read an article where the new fully loaded 2500HD/3500 series
of each flavor , (depending on trim levels), MSRP from $60,000.00 - $70,000.00.
(wait for it ... "nobody pays MSRP"...there, said it
before the usual suspects). It has now surpassed the point of
"justifiable". As such, my goal, milk my truck along until the
20 year point, and then, re-evaluate my love affair with towing
heavy RV's quickly up the mountain grade.

As I move closer and closer to "real" retirement the latest / greatest
Ram/Ford/Chevy moves to the point of being made with unobtainminium.

It is really hard to expect the Princess to watch the expenses when I'm eye-balling
a $70k truck. :S

ps...I thought 40k was too much 03'...silly boy.
