Hi,

These refirgerator models are becoming obsolete and parts are a little tough to find. I replaced the bottom handle once and the top just broke. Luckily I was able to find one on amazon.

The bottom appears to be a unicorn nowadays and unless you want to pay 80.00 for the one guy whom has surplus, you're out of luck.

Has anyone retrofitted their fridge handles with an alternative that looks clean and is functional?

Any pics?

thanks
Joe

Well looks like I am SOL on this one. I will wait until another breaks and come up with an alternative. Thanks for all you help.

From Dometic:

Hello Joe,

Thank you for the additional information. I was able to pull up one of those part numbers, the other is out of production.

Part Number 3850558010, MSRP $75.89, in stock.

Part Number 3850558028 is out of production with no substitution.

Don't know anything about your fridge, but I had the same problem with my Norcold. The door fits into a pin on the base and on the top is a non load bearing pin. Don't know if you can do it, but cn you glue the other one together and reinforce it with some metal strips as I did? Mine has been working for about 2 yrs with this "temporary" home made fix. Of course 2 weeks ago the ammonia decided to leave the fridge and now I have to bury it. I am getting a 12V Dometic to replace it.

i ordered my current toyhauler with the 10 cu ft dometic 12v...... would never own another lp/elect rv fridge! i know many will disagree but there is no comparison between the two. there are 4 temp settings in the frdige itself. i had to turn ours down to setting 2 as setting 3 was so cold cans of soda started bulge and deform. slush turning to ice and getting ready to blo up. it was down to temp in less then 4 hrs vs 24 to 48 hrs. we did not need a 10 cu ft but that was the smallest we had to choose from. very happy with it.

Thanks for the idea. I rebuilst mine with a new coil assembly from arcticcold.com but it appears they're out of business. Their website is no longer up, I was going to recommend them to you incase you were interested.

@haphazard thank you I will

The two amazon handles are incorrect. Type in dometic 3850558028 and you'll see what I mean.

Thank you for the help though:)

I just replaced one of my handles last week. Go to Dometic directly. They have two suppliers that will ship to you. The parts have been redesigned and appear cheaper than the old ones but they are Dometic direct replacements. I think I paid $34.00 total.

I found the top but the bottom is out of stock everywhere, unless I want to pay 75.00, which I will not for a piece of plastic.

I was looking into

https://parco-inc.com/product/h21349-tension-ball-latch-with-mounting-brackets/

This might be an alternative once the other lets go as well.

Along a similar line, I have my favorite hatchet and have changed the handle twice, and the head once. Probably easier and cheaper to get a new hatchet, but this one belonged to my dad!
