How long is your rig...really?

Hello Folks,
I have heard and seen various comments out there that some folks choose to fudge a bit on the size of their rig when making reservations. Generally, I understand the fudging has something to do with shortening the size of the rig when making reservations. So if the rig is 37.5', you never say 40', and generally should say it is 36' so you take off for the pin box.

My simple question is this...why? My rig is a manufacturer model 37' rig, but I always book as a 40' so I have space.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Happy travels!

The Reflection we ordered is supposed to be 33'10".

I've made reservations for 10 weeks this summer. For the Canadian Provincial Parks, I got spaces that will accommodate a 40' trailer. In the private parks I out down our rig is 35' and made a note our truck is 22 ft. I got pull through spots in 90% of the sites and the fee that are back in are big enough to accommodate a bigger trailer.

I doubt we will be able to get into California parks since their requirements are for much shorter trailers. Buy with 3 kids, this is as small a trailer as we could be comfortable in.

Our 36 ft trailer has been to many of the Southern California beach spots. There are definitely a number you can get into.

Guess you've been very lucky, we've been to sites that we've barely fit into and we are honest with our length. A couple were simply too short even though we gave them our size in advance.

You should hear the responses I get when I tell them I need no less than 90' to get on the site. We have driven to 90% of the campgrounds we stay at before we even call them to make reservations.

WOW interesting that most people over-size their rigs... ours is 38' tip to toe and I consistently book <30 foot sites without blinking an eye. Typically check pictures if never been to that particular park.

Mine is 39' 10" from tip of the pin box to the rear of the bumper. I reserve 40ft sites all the time and never have issues.

According to Winnebago, nose to tail is 33'5":W. I told the wife to quote that, she rounds up or down:S. Our favorite spot in CA is about 80 feet, we never say anything to the reservation computer:B.

Don't stretch or shrink the truth if you make a reservation on the British Columbia ferries. They always come out and measure you.

The Fed parks seem to use real measurements, State parks not so much.
When I notice that all of the sites in a stare park are listed as the same length I call and ask. The answer is always that the "lengths are all over the place but I can tell you which ones are long enough for you."
When we visit a state park even if not camping there I pace off the sites, look for obstructions getting into the spots, and write them in our always in the truck log book.

Our model number is a 28RK but the tip of the bumper to the front of the pin box is about 32.5' and coupled with the truck we're a little over 51' so I look for sites that can take 50' and don't have issues.

It depends. If it is going on a ferry I'm afraid it is 55'. If it is going in a CG I have yet to find a 30' site pad that I cannot shoehorn myself into. If you put a tape on it the number will come out at over 34'.

Made reservations recently in a SP for a 30' site. Nothing longer available. This is a SP & a loop I know well. I know that I can fit. I also know that I am going to be far from pleased when I get to that SP CG & find that people with units much shorter than mine have taken sites for much longer units. And no, it is not a question of one site being nicer than the next. They are all much the same. No special views etc.
