Could any of you recommend a reasonable insurance company. We thought we had good coverage with AAA, but they are dropping us in a couple of months. We sold our home and live full time in the 5th wheel. Also, where do some of you full-timers license your truck & camper?

Why didn't you put this in the Full timing forum?

National Interstate Insurance. Specialize in full timers insurance. Insure your tow vehicle or toad also. Very happy with them.

And part timers as well , we just switched to Blue Sky .
Very comprehensive for RV's with very reasonable rates .

Correct. I should have said full time policies are a specialty, but they do offer other types. We also have coverage for items in a storage unit.

Here's a couple of the above answers, combined... Doughtery & Assoc in SD led us to BlueSky Insurance for both the coach and car.

We have General Insurance (Good Sam) they have policies for the full time RVers. They have extra coverage of valuables since you are full timing and have been very helpful in making sure you have adequate insurance to cover what you need. In our case since we tow our toad the right coverage in case of damage while being towed.

IMHO, South Dakota is the best State to declare residency. A few reasons:
1. Low State tax, especially if you're contemplating a new vehicle to full time in.
2. No vehicle inspections..smog or safety.
3. RV friendly...meaning easy access for registration..you don't have to be present. You must visit for one night to get your drivers license.
4. No State income tax.

There are other states, of course..Texas, (must get safety inspection every two years) Nevada, no income tax, and Montana.

Part two of your question..Gilbert Insurance brokers for National Interstate. We found NI to be the best insurance for full timing..at least for us. They include CoachNet with their insurance. I carry $1000/ded/collision and $100/ded/comp. Give them a shot....Dennis

Totally inaccurate regarding inspection. If you are not in the state, you do not need inspection, as "O" would say, period. When you do return, you have three days to get inspected anywhere in state.

We use Progressive insurance. We had Erie before we stared full time but they would not cover us as full time living in a RV. The post above tell you about vehicle registration.

SD, TX and FL are common states RV FTrs use as a 'domicile' state.

Each has their good/not so good qualities. Different for each persons needs.
Ins., medical coverage, estate taxes, vehicle registrations, voting, concealed carry permits, etc.

Establishing 'residency' is easy......just need a mail forwarding service so that you have a physical address, then stay one night...go get drivers license, register vehicles, register to vote. Just have to have all the correct documentation to get drivers license.

We use SD as our 'domicile' and our vehicle insurance rates are lower than TX or FL

We use National Interstate Ins. for coverage. We have a 'full timers' policy (same type of coverage that we had on our S&B Home) and they cover our truck also. Been with them for 7 yrs. Their rates were cheaper than other quotes.

We have had two claims....one minor and one major. Both claims handled quick, efficiently with NO hassles or increase in premiums.

You can set up your 'physical address' on-line and get all your mail addresses changed over..then go to the state and get DLs etc.
Lots of mail forwarding services in all 3 states.....they all seem to do a good job. Haven't heard bad about any of them.
Is it time for your medication or mine?
