Michelin Ribs Bad Tires for a Trailer????

cruz-in

Hi All,

On another forum I participate in a poster is claiming:

1) Steel Carcass tires (like the Michelin Ribs) are "bad trailer tires"
2) "The flex/stress put on the trailer tires with steel casements can lead to sidewall failures."
3)"The steel sidewalls are also much more dependent on proper inflation. If the tires are run on low pressure, the steel flexing in the sidewall will fail. It is especially dangerous when you add air to a steel-sidewall tire that has been subjected to the flexing, and it blows out in front of you."

I have never heard this argument before...and I have read lots about tires....You all's thoughts on these claims?

Hope the Bridgestones work great for you. They make a great tire!

Have had eight XPS Ribs on my Newmar fiver (two axle dually) for three years. I particularly like the stability. No issues at all and as mentioned above rarely need to add air. I check my Pressure Pro every stop and the pressures are steady as a rock.

I sold my set of Master Track Power Touring tires with less than 1000 miles on them when I got my new 5'er home. Got $200 for the set and put the money towards a set of Ribs. Great tire!

Mine went 6.5 years and 40K+ miles and I sold them on CL for 200 bucks with about 65 percent tread left. I now am running Bridgestone Duravis R250's which are a similar steel ply carcass tire. Both are the gold standard for LT tire trailer use.

I would bit the guy that posted that has never used a set and is stuck in or is sucked in by ST the tire marketing!

Within their weight range they are THE BEST there is. The people that are against them have never tried a set..My Ribs seldom if ever loose any air so the low tire pressure argument is a tough one to validate.

Ribs always seem to be the #1 pick on RV forums although they're expensive. But, ask Michelin why they list them for RV's.

I've been running Michelin Rib tires on our 5'er for 8 years. Our 5'er is on it's 2nd set of Rib tires and no problems. I also run Rib tires on all of our trucks. Again, no problems.

Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)
