Motorhomes and Oceano dunes

Not sure if I should have posted this in the class A section but I'm thinking there will be more experience in this forum.

I have a friend bringing his class A out to the dunes to camp with me. I've been going there for the last ten years with my fifth wheel, so I know about airing down and coming in at low tide. Is there anything else that's going to help out my buddy when he bring his motorhome out there? One issue I already see is his front valance is so low, I don't think there is any place I can hook up the tow strap to if he needs a tug.

I would buy four sheets of 4 x 8 x 3/4 plywood and cut them lengthwise.

Gives eight pieces. Roll on 4 while you move the other 4 and make your way onto the soft sand.

So what if it takes an extra hour. With 4 people helping it should go fast and what a sight to behold.

I'd take a close look at the front valance and plan on having to hook up. Many make deals with the tow trucks and just get a tug from the get go, much cheaper in the long run.

At least that's what I saw when I lived up there a LONG time ago.

You can negotiate the wet sand okay while aired down, but anything up off the traveled way will be a sad state of affairs. Airing down 24.5's doesn't give you much....PITA.... sidewalls too stiff. Bring extra cash for the tow truck. But, there are some who have done it.....;)

Don't make sharp turns look for your landing spot way ahead of you and take it wide, bring lots of beer and a tow rope. The beer is for the nice guy that's going to tow you out and the rope is to hang yourself for being stupid if you get stuck!

There's a full hook up campsite about 10 minutes away. I know it's not camping directly on the beach, but you won't have to worry about getting in and out. They (or both of you) can camp there and truck it over to the dunes.

Might not be friends any more. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Wonder why the tow truck operators like to hang around?

If nothing else works, hook onto his tow hitch and pull him backwards. Maybe a little running start will be all he needs.
It's better than tearing up the front trim of the Class A.
