OK....so we have our new awesome 5ther with slides....problem is the back cabinets come open when we drive over rough roads (not avoidable sometimes)....we CANNOT see the cabinets when we push the slides out, and voila! a cabinet door ripped off....we got the first one fixed with our punch list, but the second is all me to replace....we have a problem with many cabinets opening...is there a good mod or something we can do so that we ensure the cabinets stay closed?? No major biggie to put the door back on, but my wife is PISSED...and that is not good, as many of us know!! Don't want to tape it everytime we travel....just looking for a mod we can use with confidence....thank you!!!

Yes we had 2x this problem in our former RV w/rear kitchen. Refrigerator came open then broke off.

We loved the floor plan, but couldn't put up with doors opening and everything on the floor. We got a new unit with different floor plan. We do have some cabinets in the back with the new unit, but they don' open during travel even on extremely bumpy roads.

Wow.

Expensive solution!..:R

We actually sold the unit for exactly what we paid for it.

All good suggestions, here, but why should =you= do anything? You've got a brand new FW, presumably still under warranty, and this is, IMO, a design defect. Take it back to the dealer and have it fixed, and insist on modifications to keep it from happening again. Absolute BS... I still like my idea of sending a warranty repair bill for =my= labor and parts to the manufacturer...at posted shop rates. ๐Ÿ™‚

We verify the pantry door is closed every time before the slide is extended.

My carpenter husband constructed wooden "locks" that fit between door handles on the double door openings. Sort of an elongated "M" shape. Easy to insert between cabinet door handles and then again to remove. On drawer handles, he slips a venetian blind slat down the vertical row of drawer handles (similar to the yard stick remedy mentioned previously). No more cabinet doors or drawers opening while on the road. (We, too, had to repair two doors that opened and were ripped when slide was opened.) Now, as a precaution, we check the slides before opening completely.

Cabinets should not pop open unless you have something pressing against it!
That said bungie cords work great,

Agree! Especially your unit, one of the nicer models. We've never had a cabinet come open. Check the hinge tension and the hardware that the door snaps into. Those may be loose.

We use Velcro straps on the handles of all the cabinet doors in the 5er. Never had one pop open, yet!

How about child locks?

We use these on everything in the camper. Even though stuff doesn't regularly pop open, I like having the peace of mind knowing that they are there.

You never know when a bad bump/pothole is going to pop something open, best to be safe.

I use C-3 grabber latches from www.southco.com on all doors/drawers, work great.

We used child locks in the old 5er, but the DW did not like them. Now before we leave she ties a bandana between the handles. This is not because they come open easily though. It is because we went through some construction once and open the coach to find dishes and cabinet contents all over the place. Best to keep them in the cabinets.

We have had drawers slide open, one caught by the slide. I believe mostly due to the cheap slides used. We use yard sticks through the handles which does the trick. Our fridge is hid by the slide is like Old Bisquit, we move the slide a little to check, then extend it the rest of the way.
