Real dark paneling...

I went with some friends yesterday to look at a new camper for them......OMG the ones we looked at had paneling so dark that the lights would have to be turned on the daylight. Just to see to read the newspaper. Plus the lack of windows......Why do builders do that ? It was like being in a cave....

We have the dark finished cabinets in our trailer, and after using it for awhile I'm not a fan. If its a bright sunny day its ok, but at night its like someone else stated, being in a cave.

The rear living room FWs generally are very light inside with the big window in the back and all the windows in the slides across from the kitchen. Now, the bedroom is another matter.

Never been a fan of the dark or very light either. Also don't care for the two-toned versions either with white for medium and dark woods. A rich hickory or maple for me.

A few years back when we were looking to change from our TT to 5er we noticed the same thing. Here on the west side of Oregon we have enough dark grey days the dark interior (even the wall paper coverings) didn't enamour us. We purchased a good used one, partially for the cost savings, but mostly for the interior colors and number of windows.

We traded rigs a couple of years ago and the dark interior (some even with black interior) was the #1 deal breaker. We wouldn't even go inside to look if it was cave dark. But they sure make a lot of them these days, and they do it because they sell. I guess we are in the minority, but as the saying goes "different strokes for different folks". Buy what you like and travel and enjoy it!

That is one of the major reasons we have not traded our 22' TT for a little longer one. Our Sunline has a light maple interior, which we love, and real wood too. But it only has a dinette and we would like to have dinette and a couch or two reclining chairs. All the new TTs we looked at have dark cabinets and dark wood finishes making the whole interior much too dark. That is a deal killer for us.

Another thing that gripes me is most of the mid size TTs, no matter the manufacturer, can not be had with the finer interiors upgrades that the longer TTs have as standard or optional packages.

The interiors seem to be cyclical. One year there all light colored and the next all dark. Would be nice if they offered the choice in the same model year.

When you buy a quality rig the wood is real and no I'm not talking particle board or plywood. Our Nexus has solid Maple cabinets throughout.

There is the other extreme, I saw whitewashed oak in one the other day! It took 20 years to finally get rid of that in our old stickhouse:(

Dark wood feels Warmer for those that camp in colder (Darker) seasons. :S

Personally, I'm not an oak fan, and think it looks cheap. I like a medium-dark color, but I also like RL rigs with large rear windows, so that helps. Having the windows in the ends of the big slides helps, too. I've see a couple of FWs that have a antique'd white finish, which I think looked very nice. Would have looked even nicer with some bubble-glass cabinet doors...but that's just something else to break. ๐Ÿ™‚

When we were shopping for a new C I thought we wanted the Cherry interior. We ended up finding a nice used model that came with the Maple interior and the difference is amazing. We now love the Maple and having see a couple of the Cherry interiors find them far to dark and yes they do seem smaller. :h

Plus stained wood will darken with time. Better to start out lighter.
