Redwood or Solitude?

Hey folks, we are looking at upgrading to a new 5er and have narrowed our decision down to two rigs, a Solitude and a Redwood. Both are about the same price and are both new. The Redwood is a 36RL and the Solitude is the same floor plan. The Redwood has more features and seems higher end. Which is the better buy??

We really like our Redwood and have had only a couple of minor problems in almost two years. Have pulled it about 20k miles. Ordered it with the G614 tires and no problems.

OF COURSE I kept the tires. They're still in my garage. All I got from anybody was..."Gee, sorry to hear that. You know, tires can be under-inflated, over-inflated, or over-loaded. Have a nice day". Any other questions?

Tire problems arent inherent to Redwood. If you didnt order the G614 option then you didnt research well or got poor Dealer advise.

Of course I had the G614 tires, any fool would and yes, I had issues with them on trip home from dealer. I called Dealer, I called Redwood, and I called tire manufacturer. You mention that four letter word - TIRE and they all just pointed at each other. Cost me hundreds of dollars to get a mobile tire guy out, not to mention the cost of two new G614's. Any other questions?

I'm surprised Goodyear didn't pay any of the cost and replace the tires. Goodyear is usually very good about that. Of course you had to keep the bad tires so they can check them out.

If you've got an extra $80,000 plus and don't mind taking a chance on whether you get a "lemon" or not, go for the Redwood. Oh yes, did I mention about the slide-out toppers falling off and the tire issues I've had on my 2014 36RL Redwood, along with all the other problems?
Not to worry! As Redwood says, "but we have such a wonderful two year warranty, what's your problem". My problem is that my unit has been in the shop more than out of it since I bought it.

Been in our Redwood for 2 years and approx 20K miles and only been to the Shop for its yearly inspection to maintain the 5 year structural warranty.
At least they wised up and have made the G614 the OEM tire, rather than finding just another cheap E rated China tire like some MRFs.

We just got back from a 4300 mile road trip in our Solitude 369RL, and heading back out next week. Totally pleased with our Solitude...

After visiting the Tampa RV show, I walked away thinking the Lifestyle 5th wheel was going to be my next purchase. I liked the quality, engineering and most of all the attitude of the factory representative. They will build almost to any request you have. Evidently they are old Carrage crew that migrated to Lifestyle and are very flexible in configuring a trailer to what you want with the equipment you want.

Another happy Redwood owner. We fulltime in ours and have only had the convection oven issue to deal with, it was replaced by Frigidaire under warranty easily enough. I don't think either of the brands you mentioned are bad. We looked at both when we got our, wish the Grand Design had full body paint though.

Be sure to do your research on the Internet and not just this forum, lots of people here have VERY strong opinions based on second hand information. Take that for what it's worth.

BTW the Redwood has a very good 2 year warranty, that was one of the determining factors for us.

Both are good. Choose the one you like for the goodies you like. We have a Redwood. Could not be more pleased. I see many bad reports on different units. Like autos or anything else, there are lemons out there. Most of the time you don't hear about the ones that don't have problems. We have had no problems with the unit to this point. Tows like a dream, set up is easy. Good luck making your choice.

I've never thought much about Redwood. Appeared to be just a dressed up Montana. Grand Design Solitude has had many very good comments on this forum. It would be worth the time to read what comes up in the search box. I have been impressed with Grand Design construction and value when I have looked over at the RV shows. Randu
