Small 5th wheel

New member here and have a few questions.

I currently don't own a 5th wheel camper but was seriously considering one. I have been attending the RV show in Hershey Pa for the past couple years. I took a look at a lot of campers but didn't see many smaller 5th wheel units. I really don't want anything big. I believe I remember one that was under 30 feet. I would really like to get the towing benefits of a 5th wheel, but don't need or want a big unit, at least not at this time.

Thanks
Chuck

funny, when I think of the term shorter, and some say they went down to 30.

my first was a 19 ft sport king loved it
then 23 ft
then we thought BIGGER. 2001 Cardinal model 28, but front to back is 30.
we really like it. Wednesday after Chemo treatment we are heading to Bullard's beach Oregon.

we had gone to a Cardinal Rally and we were oldest and smallest rig, but it works for us.

Welcome to the forum! Do you already have your TV (tow vehicle)? That will also be a factor in what you purchase.

Look for 5ers marketed by manufacturers as "1/2 ton towable". They are typically 30ft or under.

Thanks everyone, some great info and ideas. I didn't know that the Escape and Idle Time even existed. Need to do more research.

We had Idle Time build us this 23' unit and are very satisfied.

We got the smooth Fiberglas sides and other options that we wanted.

We needed a shorter 5th that would let us enjoy the many older state parks with short sites or challenging entries

We also wanted RL and quality build on a lighter frame
Our 2014 26SAB is working out great

28' , 7200 lbs, very good floor plan (for us)
You might want to review the specs and add this camper to your research list

Best of luck!!!

We just went shorter. First 5er was a 289(Which was 31 bumper to hitch) footer. Went to a 31 1/2 (34 bumper to hitch/ add three if the bike rack is out). Just went back down to a 27 (30 ft bumper to hitch).

Since the new one is a very open rear living room it feels much bigger the the previous two.

There are a few that come in under 30', but not too many. And you probably will not see many at the RV shows as they are not the flashier models. Look at the various manufacturer web sites and browse all the different models and floor plans. Keystone, Forest River, Jayco, KZ, and others make a lot of different 5ers under many different brand names and many different floor plans. And for an even smaller 5er there is the Scamp.
