Small 5th wheel

New member here and have a few questions.

I currently don't own a 5th wheel camper but was seriously considering one. I have been attending the RV show in Hershey Pa for the past couple years. I took a look at a lot of campers but didn't see many smaller 5th wheel units. I really don't want anything big. I believe I remember one that was under 30 feet. I would really like to get the towing benefits of a 5th wheel, but don't need or want a big unit, at least not at this time.

Thanks
Chuck

Forest River makes the Puma line of Fivers. We owned a 2005 Puma 253fbs that was only 26 feet long. Lots of storage space and easily towed with a F250. Under 8000lbs with queen walk around bed.

Padlin,

I have been looking on line, at the Escape fifth wheel. Problem is-the factory is in western Canada.

I worry the bathroom will be too small. Would love to see one. The website says the closest one to me (with a person willing to show) is in Richmond, VA.

Assuming you like yours?

Sent you a PM.

The bath is small, but does what it's supposed to do. And yes, we couldn't be happier. Well, maybe if gas would go to $1.

while I consider my unit to be on the longer side of the short Fivers out there I will say that at 33'10" its perfect for just about any campground I pull into, not sure I'd want one of those 37-40ft units now.

Thanks everyone, some great info and ideas. I didn't know that the Escape and Idle Time even existed. Need to do more research.

There is also Scamp, smaller than the Escape at 19', max, IIRC.

It would be a hoot to see an F250 towing one of those.

The very first Escape 5.0TA was raised to go on an F350 4x4, the fella wanted to for off road use I believe. There was a picture of it, that I can't find, that showed the top of the tires about even with the bottom of the trailer body. Looked a bit strange.

FWIW, the 5.0TA can be had in 3 suspension heights. My F150 uses it in the mid position. Small trucks like a Frontier uses the lowest.

Thanks, I have a 2005 F250 crew cab short bed diesel. I would love to upgrade to a new F250 with a 6.7L diesel but that may have to wait a while. I know the truck is rated for more then 10k lbs but I wanted to stay under that.

I do like the idea of a slide out, they just make it so much more roomy inside. A 20' to 24' with 1 or 2 slide outs would be ideal.

I was just really surprised when I couldn't find many smaller 5ers and was wondering why that is.

Thanks

Your F250 is just about perfect for all those fivers labels as half-ton. Our Cougar is 28'-9". There is at least one Cougar model slightly shorter than that.

But really, if you want to go below 24', best go with a pull-behind. You'll have a much better selection and get more bang for the buck.

Welcome to the forum! Do you already have your TV (tow vehicle)? That will also be a factor in what you purchase.
