Small Toy Hauler With Outside Storage or Seperate Garage

Hello -

So we have a 21 ft Rockwood Mini-Lite right now that I love. We want to get quads so know that we would like some type of toy hauler in the future and have started looking around.

I don't like the idea of keeping the quads inside, I have seen some with an outside storage deck (I love this idea!) but could only find one model (Highlander) with that option and without the pop out bed.

The other option would be an inside separate garage, but I don't want to end up with a 40' trailer as that limits where we can go.

Any suggestions? I figure if I ask the experts I might get something better than Google! ๐Ÿ™‚

We aren't really picky. Just looking for something to tool around on up north, nothing too fancy.

It was a compromise we were willing to make to get a shorter trailer that would still fit both quads and allow access to the kitchen and bathroom with them in it. What kind of quads are you looking at?

Thanks for all the responses everyone!! I am glad to know there are options out there and that the gas smell is a myth. racerguy351 - The bed above the storage was the first thing I ruled out because I can see myself taking a tumble for sure!! I do like the idea of being able to use the camper with the quads inside if ever needed (we do plan to do some cross country trips and then wouldn't need to unload for a quick night). Now we just gotta find a deal on some quads. ๐Ÿ™‚

We've got a Weekend Warrior FK2100. We looked around a long time before we found something that was short enough for where we like to go but that would hold 2 full size ATVs. The front kitchen makes for lots of storage room for the quads. It works really well but there are times when I wish the bed wasn't above the quads as it's a bit of a pain to climb the ladder in the middle of the night. Neither of our quads has a fuel shut off and I've never noticed any smell at all.

The gas fumes thing is an overblown myth.

I personally prefer not having a separate garage. I have 2 2007 quads and one from 2001. My wife is sensitive to gas smell and she's never once smelled gas in the camper. And it opens up the floor plan with everything able to be moved to the side. Everyone camps differently, but we are never in the camper, so our 21 foot works perfectly. I would check out Shockwave and Sandstorm, both are basically the same thing, but have a variety of configurations. If doing it again, I'd probably get the sandstorm 30 foot fifth wheel. Just watch the payload of your 3/4 ton, mine would be close.

Check out the brand crossroads. They have some with the front deck that is hard sided (no popup or soft pop outs).

I have a 1905 (19 foot) Rubicon toy hauler I can fit 2 utility quads (7ft long 4 ft wide) in there. The only problem is you have to take them out to use the camper (which is only a problem when it takes more than one day to get to your destination). I didn't want a big trailer either for the places I like to go. I also was thinking about one with the front deck but I didn't want to tow to the extra 8-10 feet of trailer when I didn't take the quads. Also 8-10 feet to get into tight spots. Also figured if I was going to have a 30 ft trailer I wanted it to be all living space. once you get to your site that front deck to me is wasted space. I have never had the gas smell people say you get with them inside and I have stored the quads in there all winter before. Hope this helps.

You can haul 2 quads standing up on their rear wheels in the bed of your pickup and tow your current travel trailer. I have carried two 3-wheelers standing up on end in the pickup bed many times. All you need is a pair of ramps to ride them up into the truck bed.

We have hauled our side X side for 6 years now in ours, don't have gas shut-offs, left them muddy also, most people ask us if we have ever hauled anything in here when they look at the inside.

What is your concern with having the quads inside? Been doing it for years and never an issue.

I actually really like your floorplan, it's has more cozy feel. Even if it would only fit one quad because there is not enough room side to side. We could always but one quad along with the other stuff we usually have in the back of the truck....and then one quad in the back of the truck.

So, how big of a garage do you need exactly?

I just ask, because our camper, Raptor 27FS (now rebranded as a Carbon 27) is 32' with the tongue and has a 9 foot separate garage. No idea if it would fit 2 quads. Our 1 RZR fits no problem side to side but BARELY fits length wise.
