I picked up a use 5th wheel (for a heck of a price) for my son who is currently enlisted in the Army National Guard.

I seen this prior to buying it, but I have to wonder, "why would anyone do this"?

Took me a few hours with a dental pick and fin comb, but it turned out very well.

The fins were bent over.

I'm looking at this with a HD screen and zoomed 400% and I don't see bent fins, I see a coil plugged with******like dryer lint. Is that what you fixed with a toothpick?

Well thats what I thought too when I looked at it. To me it looked like my home AC unit when those stupid cottonwood trees I had started to make it snow all over the place.

So OP was it clogged or was it all the fins bent?

That stuff on the roof is sap, not hail damage.

I actually was amused by the title. My late father who started us on the RV route in the 1950s used to say that every time something happened whether it was kids, adults or mother nature. I can still hear him saying that. Thanks for the memory....

I was just posting this in a positive out look to the original title. Myself I have been on my own since 16. I have always worked. Whether to buy school clothes and later to support myself. Father was surprised how much I made when I asked for emancipation. It has been a life of work to provide for wife and kids but I would not have it any other way.

Wife and I feel today that we should have provided less to our kids and they may have been better off today. But what's done is done.

I guess my folks had it right and I should have required my kids to work a bit more than I did. They are good kids, just not as hard working or ambitious I we feel they should be.

I was raised by my parents that if I want something, I need to work for it, there is no free ride. My kids are the same way. My son paid for it, I am just doing the work to fix it back up. I actually enjoy doing this type of work.

I did this to our home AC unit when I was a kid, maybe 5-6. Took me and my brother a couple of hours to get the all fins hammered down nice and flat.

And hammered is exactly what my dad did to our rear ends when he found out after the unit froze up.

Yeah, kids did it.

I'm guessing a person tried to clean the coils with either a pressure washer or high pressure nozzle and garden hose.

That would be my guess too.

To the OP, you have WAY more patience than I do.....good job !

It doesn't take much, or very big hail to damage those fins. Now that you have it straightened out, fix it so it won't happen again. Take the shroud off and put a piece of hailscreen over that opening. You can use pop rivets or screws to hold the screen in place. Reinstall the shroud and you are good to go. That sure beats straightening those fins again.
