We have a fifth wheel on order and I need advice on where to put the trailer electrical plug. I see that the plug kit says between cab and rear axle on inside wall of bed. Do any use the stock plug on bumper? Also, do you keep the tailgate or get a fifth wheel tailgate?
Thanks

When I was using my Pickup, I used the factory one by the bumper hitch. Had one up near the front that was used with our Truck camper. But for me I liked the back one best. Our truck had the plastic along the top of the tailgate and never left any marks.
The Kodiak C5500 I use one in front of the hitch. As it does not have one anywhere else.

That sounds like a wiring issue!!

Do you have a good ground through the umbilical?? It should make no difference to your electrical if the trailer is hitch of unhitched.

Not sure, but I think he referring "unhitching" to pulling away without unplugging the umbilical.

I think if that was the case the issue would be more than a "Short and Blown Fuses" likely destroy the bed plug and damage the umbilical cable.

Last two Rams I have used the in the bed plug. I installed the one in my 2012 easy to do. The 2014 came with it installed. I use the stock factory tail gate.

Get the kit from RAM it's a easy mod and well worth it.

Keep tailgate, towing 5er's since around 95 with factory tailgate on each truck.

Also do the B&W turnover ball and 20K Companion. Actually the less expensive way to go is get the puck kit from RAM and go with the RVK3600 that way you will have a hitch for your next bigger truck and RV.

Fifth wheel tailgate and extension for me. If we are stationary for awhile I take off the extension.

I've tried bumper plug as well as a 5th wheel tail gate. I prefer the plug in rear inside bed not far from rear of bed. I'm short, and that way I can reach the plug easily. Factory tailgate works fine and the truck looks a lot better as well as keeping rear camera.

In box plug (driver's side rear) keeps everything inside box out of harm's way. As worked very good for the last 11 years.

Bumper plug is ghetto... If u can afford a 5er you can spend the $30 on a bed plug kit. It's plug-n-play... Arms length from tailgate on drivers side is where you want it mounted.
