What works best for protecting the carpeted steps to the Beedroom/bathroom area? I have tried the clear plastic runners, but the dont cover as much as I would like and dont stay in position.

Protect them from what?
Really. Taking off shoes is best. Plastic runners really suck.

What he said. x2.

Same here no shoes dropped at door on entry. Part of the new
Oak steps is an open design for shoe storage.

We always wear shoes in the 5ver and the house when we had it.....why not?? We vacuum a couple of times a week and shampoo a few times a year and with a couple of dogs and full timing....it still looks ok. If it gets so bad...I will replace the capet on the stairs.

Yeah if I took my shoes off/them back on every time I went IN/OUT I spend all my time putting my boots ON/OFF.
Might as well go bare foot but them I'd have to have a bucket of water and towel at the door and spend all my time washing my feet.

I'd might as well get a tent and stay OUT :B

Sorry just not a shoe on/off kind of fellow.

Vacuum/shampoo.......replace if needed kind of guy.
if we let our kids wear shoes inside we would have god knows what all over the place. Its purely hygenic as well.We walk barefoot in the camper alot.I dont want to be stepping in whatever people bring in from outside.Goes for our house as well. While camping we are wearing flip flops etc most of time.Takes a split second to kick em off your feet.Personal decision. To each there own.

I'd say take off all shoes upon entering the coach AND vary the way you walk up the stairs; sometimes in the middle, sometimes right, etc.

why not try some superhydrophobic coating for your carpet? my mom usually apply this kind of product on our carpet. good thing is she never scolded us everytime we drop a liquid since the treated surface wonโ€™t even get wet! lol. I love this cool thing. she bought it online and the product is called Always Dry. I also put some on my clothes and itโ€™s incredibly amazing guys

After it wears out, go to any carpet place and look for remant that almost match the color. We opted for a piece of commercial carpeting for about $4 and it looks great. After a few days, you won't even notice it!!! Wears like steel and have a bunch left over.

Replaced the ugly stained wood round front steps with matching floor covering from FR. now the floor matches from the kitchen to the bathroom.

You would be if you were in some RV parks that have asphalt roadways. You'll be tracking in a black stain all over everything, and it doesn't take long for your place to look horrible. Since it's from the asphalt, I can only assume it's oil.

I don't know if 'shampoo' works well, but truck-mounted professional carpet cleaners do work.

We wear shoes inside, don't know what protecting carpet is about; we like looks and feel of carpet so we'll enjoy it as is. If it gets dirty, wash it; when it gets worn put, replace it.

We never used plastic runners on the steps or anywhere else on our 06 5th wheel that we long timed in for 7 years and the carpet was good. Cleaned it twice a year as mentioned above. We keep our shoes on.

After 11 years we are replacing carpet on steps with wood. Don't put anything over the carpet. It will make it more slippery and you're risking a fall.
