Tires, anything different if we have a Toy Hauler?

We have a little bubble on one of the tires... We have had the Heartland Cyclone 3010 since May 2012. I know we need to change it and I believe all four should be changed.

Is there anything specific or different for Toy Hauler/5th wheel tires that I should be looking for?

Any suggestions on which brand etc? Does TireRack carry these tires? Costs?

I would like to order it online b/c I think it might save the most money, but where would I go to have it changed out? I don't think my Local Walmart would do RV tires.

I'm sorry about the newbie questions.

I just looked up your rig & you have "Axles (2) 7,000 lbs." Why put a GY614 or 17.5 tires on a 7,000 lb. axle. You would need to change out your axles for heavier axles.

Not true, necessarily. You do not "need" to change the axles, or maybe even the wheels. Check the wheels. My 16" wheels WERE rated for the higher pressure. Yours might be too. Do not go above what wheel is rated at.

However, you do NOT have to run the tire at max sidewall pressure. In fact, you should NOT, i f not needed.

We are talking about better tires, not tires to hold a higher weight. If 80# will hold the weight in your current tires, 80# will hold it in the GY 614's. Run at the 80#.

Same with the axles. My Voltage has 3 7000# axles. Max trlr rating is 19,000#. Pin 3500#. So, the three axles are holding 15,500#, at max rating. Yet, the axles are rated for 21,000#.

I put the GY114's, H rated, 17.5 tires and wheels on No need to change axles to 8k axles. Yes, the tires are overkill, I run them at 85#, well below max sidewall pressure.

I will have a whole lot less tire problems with this combo. Which is what I am striving for. Overkill, yes.

Peace of mind? PRICELESS!

It has been a few years but I think you have to take the tire off & there is a sticker on the inside of the rim with the pressure on it. With out that sticker I would not put a high pressure tire on a rim.

Our OEM wheels are rated at 110 psi.

E rated LT tires are not rated for the loads we put on our 7k axles. This is the reason for G rated tires.

Just get a good LT tire like the BF Goodrich Commercial T/A a very good tire at a good price.

Now I have Michelin XPS Rib on my Dodge they are very expensive{price on 6 $16/1900 walking out the door} but I got 85,000 miles "I rotate every 5K" on my last set so they are the cheapest tires I can put on my truck. You are not going to wear the tires so don't don't throw your money on XPS Ribs. As you should get new tires at 5 years no longer than 7 if you keep them covered when setting. Now you will not want to get new tires as the old XPS ribs will still look like new.

One last thing when you get new tires have them balance the tires. You will have less vibration = better ride less wear. Would you get tires for you truck & not have them balanced?

The 3010 is only a 14,000 GVWR trailer. While I will agree that 12,168 worth of tire rating is cutting it close, I wouldn't go out on a limb and say it is not enough. G614s are probably the best bet, but the rims are probably not rated for 110 psi so you will end up replacing the rims anyway. If I had to replace the rims, my move would be 17.5 tires which will far exceed your needs, provide the best peace of mind and even reduce rolling resistance which should help fuel economy.

If your 3010 has 7k axles you can't use the LT "rib" tires as they won't have the capacity for the axle rating. If you don't want Chinese junk about your only options are the Goodyear G614's or go to 17.5 inch wheels and tires. I went 17.5 route and now have no worries about running a 16 inch tire at their max capacity.

15K miles on my Bridgestone Duravis running heavy and fast, still look new after 2 years. No issues! Buy the best tires your money can buy, also buy more tire than your required load if possible.

Yeah, if you cannot go to the 17.5's, go with the GY 614's in 16"
