Recently upgraded from a 30 ft 7000 lb cougar x-lite to a 42 ft 12,000 lb Montana High country 5th wheel, also upgraded truck to a 2017 f350 6.7 l Do not have either yet as they are on order. Felt fairly at ease before pulling around my old set up, but feeling a little anxious about my new added length. Any advise please.

Been there. Cougar XLite 28SGS pulled by 2014 F350 SRW Lariat diesel 4x4 payload of 3267. Went to the Montana 305RL. Advertised hitch weight of 2175. After loading it up and rolling across CAT scale I was several hundred over payload.
Thus the RAM with 4018# payload.

Where did the op say he ordered a SRW? The F-350 also comes in a dually.

The fact the OP has responded to a number of the comments, which included Cummins' SRW observation, and did not clarify he ordered a DRW, I'm going to go out on a limb and say he ordered a SRW.

REALLY??? 42' 12,000# 5er. Why talk unloaded weight? Looks like your GVWR is around 15,500#. Fully loaded you may want to check your trucks rear axle weight.

Since it's in the ordering stages I would highly advise they change the POS "E" tires to some quality "G" tires.

Good point Cummins.

OP, hopefully you ordered your truck with 18" tires and a 7230lb RAWR. You get that 7230 rating when you order the All Terrain tires. If not, your RAWR will be 6780lbs with 18" All Seasons. If you ordered 17" tires you get a meager 6340lb RAWR.

Also, your payload for that truck will be around 3600lbs out the factory door. If the dealer said it is a lot higher? They don't know the facts.

That trailer will have a pin weight of ~3000lbs+. Going to be a close for payload but not too extreme.

When I jumped up in size the biggest difference I noticed was just parking it next to my house is more difficult. Once out on the road it's not a lot different. Of course, wider turns and watching height. I just always remember most roads are meant for 18-wheelers and buses so even my behemoth of a 5th wheel is relatively small.

The longer the trailer, the easier they are to back up. Turning 90 degree corners will be different, so go slow when maneuvering around gas pumps and other obstacles in parking lots. I drove commercially and was trained to get out and look behind before backing.

I would agree with that. My Cardinal GVWR is 16K, weighing in at 15.5K loaded. I had the G rated tires put on at factory, otherwise it would have come with E rated tires. They are a much beefier tire. If you have the option of going to disc brakes, I'd do that too. That's the *one* option I wish I had thought about a little more.

You will adjust just fine, just take your time and remember you have a bit more length, and will have to compensate. Congrats on the new duo!! Good Luck and Happy Camping !!!
