Winterize - Fridge

I have had a lot of TT before, just got the Open Range this July, but the new controls are a 1st for me and the regular fridge winterization is totally new to me (esp since the fridge has an ice maker).

During the walk thru the tech. stated about poking a hole thru the water filter, but of course didn't take notes. lol

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So here is what I do:

I pull antifreeze through the water dispenser in the fridge and then leave the ice maker on with the water pump on until the antifreeze ends up in the ice tray.

Pink ice cubes - not a very effective anti-freeze?

UPDATE - I winterized our rig this past weekend, mind you I am not a fan of the entire hose from the control panel to a single gallon of winterizing agent. I think next year I am purchasing a 3 or 5 gallon container and dumping the winterizing agent in that container. Since I was by myself, a few times, I was sucking air a few times when I ran out of the 1 gallon container. Mind, you I was a little annoyed that I did not get a hose, I had to run to Lowes...

As for the fridge, I ran and ran water out of the water dispenser, but no pink. Well, I tasted the "water", it was winterizing agent, apparently the filter was taking the pink color out of the winterizing agent. Then after that, I waited for pink ice cubes, realizing that they wouldn't be pink now, instead of ice, I got "slushy" cubes. Go figure winterizing agent would not freeze. Again, I did taste it and made two cycles of slush cubes.

Prior to the winterization and having regular fridges, the fridge would not allow the use of water or ice maker without the filter installed.

O well the joys of learning about the new rig... At least I know what to expect for next year.

I simply winterize the entire rigs faucets/showers/toilets as per normal. I leave fridge/freezer on while pump is active (winterizing tube in antifreeze) and ice maker calls for water to make ice. Eventually 3-5 hours later im getting pink cubes and its safe to shut the unit down an dry/clean the fridge/freezer. In the spring I shock the fresh tank with some bleach and run a dozen trays of ice and all the pink is gone and I have fresh ice again.

^^^^This is the correct answer.

Open out side access to refer.
Locate hose fitting for water line and disconnect.
Make sure water valve is on so low point drain will suck water out.
Lower arm on the ice maker in freezer. Water via gravity will empty line if there is no loops or low spots.
I use my compressor to blow out the lines. I remove all filters and replace them in spring.

Not sure if this would help, but for winterization we normally just blow the water out of the lines with a compressor. Any water that does remain in the lines are minimal at best, and and leaves the lines with enough expansion room. I imagine that would work for your situation. Good Luck and Happy Camping !!!

Dan, not having the luxury of a refrigerator equipped with an ice maker, I would refer to the owners manual. If the OM does not shed any light on the subject I would make every effort to glean as much information about the unit to enable you to get all the water out of the system. You Tube can prove to be a valuable source of information.

Good Luck!
