This is so unbelievable, I just have to share it.

Jescel (ID: BZ1): Hi, my name is Jescel (ID: BZ1). How may I help you?
dean Deurwaarder: need to have dns service on a tailgater. what is the cost?
Jescel (ID: BZ1): I can help with that.
Jescel (ID: BZ1): May i have your account number?
dean Deurwaarder: i would be a new customer
Jescel (ID: BZ1): I understand.
Jescel (ID: BZ1): May I have the phone number on the account?
dean Deurwaarder: like i said, i would be a new customer, so there is no account.

This was after 3 phone calls. The 1st rep told me she did not know anything about the Tailgater and could not transfer me to anyone that did know. I call back 2 other time and was hung up on after about 30 seconds each time.

I am surprised that someone at Dish didn't tell me they only work with their
receivers. I was thinking that since the antenna says Dish, Dish is who I should call. Confusing to his ole guy.

We have never had a problem with Dish that the Dish rep could not help us with including contacting King (who builds the Tailgater) when we had a Tailgater die (the dish itself).

They only care about receivers. The receiver is how you connect back to Dish - how they connect to you. You hung up while they were trying to get you a local dealer who could have answered your questions. I've had nothing but great service with Dish. Really phenomenal service.

Neither DISH nor Directv know anything at all about our antennas. Don't even mention them or you will just confuse the issue. To them, an antenna is an antenna is an antenna.

Also, DISH does not offer DNS service due to a federal consent decree from years ago. They, at one time, had a third party company offer DNS service through them, but even that has ceased. If you want DNS, you are limited to Directv.

You are the one whom is confused. Dish Network does not provide service to your antenna. They provide service to a Dish Network Receiver. The tailgater is an antenna. If you do not have an account, you are not a customer with a receiver. Do you have a receiver? Are you receiving service from Dish network?

I don't see where DISH offers DNS service anymore. On the DirecTV website you can easily get info on DNS channels and download the form to complete and mail in. That's what we did. Very easy.

We have DirecTv at home and Dish Network in the TT. I think it's a toss up which one has dumber people on their help line. We pay more then twice as much for DirecTv and don't have HD. Dish doesn't have YES Network. We got DirecTv when they were called USSB years ago and they tell us if we want it cheaper we should cancel and become a new customer. Cable says they won't go to places where there are so few houses so we won't know if they are any better.

Ahhh, we went through this in September when DH bought me a Winegard Pathway II as a birthday gift. He went through a VERY similar conversation. Then we opened the box and all over inside it tells you to NOT call Dish and to call Winegard directly. After speaking with them it took all of 10 minutes to set up. BTW, we do use ours at home and on the road - built a little elevated stand for it and it is easy enough to disconnect and take it on the road ๐Ÿ™‚
