We are new to RVing, as we just bought a 2001 Monoco Diplomat. Our son is stationed at Camp Lejeune and we would like to find a place within an hour of Base preferably near the beach for a visit. Possibly between Wilmington and Morehead City.Anyone have recomendations of a good Campground.

As with the OP, my son is also at Lejune - what would be involved in having him sponsor us for a stay at the Onslow RV park - is it available to us as family members of our Marine?

Thanks

Holiday Trav-L-Park at Emerald Isle is a good choice if you want a beach front option....

If the base campground on the beach doesn't work out, within your criteria you also would find the Croatan National Forest Cedar Point, NC Campground. It is about a 20 minute drive from the Route 24 main gate of Lejeune.

Cedar Point is inexpensive (honors the senior pass for a discount but can be reserved ahead) and has electric hookups. Shady, quiet, has boat launch, walking trail and bathrooms with showers. Just stayed there last weekend for the second time. Good grocery store, gas stations, fresh produce at farmers markets etc. nearby.

The NF campground is a few miles from the intersection of 24 and 58. 58 is the bridge over to Emerald Isle beach community. Very short ride to beautiful Atlantic Ocean beach and lots of restaurants.

Do what st687 said. If no luck try Cabin Creek Campground 3200 Wilmington Hwy Jacksonville NC 28540 910-346-4808. This campground is close to the New River Main Gate. Roy

Our son lived in Cabin Creek Campground in a fifth-wheel while stationed at Little River Marine Corps Air Station (near Camp LeJeune), and we visited him there in our motorhome. The staff was friendly (a workkamping couple) and the place was clean, quiet, and neat. It was not a resort park by any means, but neither was it expensive. There was a pool and a playground (but it was winter when we were there.)

As you might expect near a military base, there are quite a few trailer parks in this area and some offer short-term rentals to campers. You can easily find many of them by using Google Maps. Just zoom in on the area of interest and type "camp grounds" in the search box at the top of the page.

There are also quite a number of web sites dedicated to locating campgrounds for RV-ers.

Talk to your Marine about staying at the Onslow Beach RV Park on the base.
