Camping World issue

I was going to order 4 custom sized window awnings from Camping World in Oregon for my motorhome. The sales people at CW wanted about $1800 plus $530 shipping.

I have since ordered them from the CW web site and paid about $1200 with free shipping. Some one there must be trying to take advantage of the customers that shop there.

I try to empathize where I can and sympathize where I can. But when I'm the one on the Short end of the stick I'm just not that guy. We all have our problems, but it seems the businesses want to pass on ALL their problems to the End consumer. So to the Business owners...Where's your empathy? There is ABSOLUTELY no justification why a 78 dollar part should cost the end user $570 to install. There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING as a business owner that you can say to justify that. $648 for a providing and installing a $78 part that I installed myself in 25 min after watching an internet video is outrageous and unacceptable. Nah, if that's how y'all do business and/or exercise understanding for those companies and practices, then shame on you. I couldn't do business that way, my MORALS wouldn't allow it.

I don't mean to be critical, but have you been on this forum for any length of time? There are complaints about CW's practices almost every day.

OMG. :S

Camping World is nice enough to sponsor this forum. In fact, Marcus Lemonis, CEO would come on and post responses to different aspects of his company. Then, it seems, he became a movie star and forgot about us little people. I've met him personally at several of their grand openings and found him to be sincere in his efforts to run this company. Unfortunately, it appears his 'message' has never really gotten through to those below him. Yes, the internet is always going to be cheaper on most things as there is little overhead. As long as you don't need whatever immediately you can get it cheaper on line. Of course you always run the risk of losing it to a porch pirate, but that's the subject of another post. Happy Camping everyone...:W....Dennis

Ava , tough tops out of Vancouver wa has better quality than original at I’m sure a much lower price. If you want absolutely the best fabric , in my opinion Stone Vos in Florida would be about the same cost but better than original. Don’t assume the original is the “best”
CW is giving you the std price , the online price is ..well .... online , or for those that know to ask the store to match their online price . While not very honest way to do business , it’s pretty much the normal for many companies . Camping world has many other issues that make them my absolute last choice. It’s just my opinion but I believe you’d do much better canceling your order and doing some further research.

Those guys (CW) are thieves, plain and simple. My Kwikee steps electric motor died on me. So I took it up to CW and in fact they verified that that was the problem. They gave me an appointment 2 weeks out, said they'd order the part and install it, ALL this for the Glorious price of $648. I said:"Oh....OK"
At home I jumped on the internet, watched 4 videos on You tube, Ordered the part (the motor) plus the Linkage/gear assembly, He-- might as well change out the WHOLE unit while I was at it. I paid $183. Got it in the mail 5 days later and installed it. 15 min to uninstall it and 25 min to put in the new part(s) motor+Linkage/gear assembly. Now, I paid $183, but as a business they most likely pay 1/2 that. So they were gonna get me for close to $530. The poor guy installing it at CW would have gotten his meager $12-20 an hr and it would have taken him 30 min to do the whole job (not 45 like me with no experience.) Well all I can say is in the end I saved Over $450. And CW...well they got the bird and a prayer that they go bankrupt real soon. LOL

I am not here to defend Camping World or any other business prices but as a business owner myself part of the reason for the high price you quoted is over head cost of the building and the many insurances we business owners have to have now just to keep our doors open, I am forced to carry a million dollar liability auto insurance policy on each of my 6 works vans so I can do work on HOA complex's here in Las Vegas cause of the new HOA insurance law as well as a 1 million dollar general liability for the business itself and don't get me started on Workmans comp insurance for the 21 employees I also have, heck I think I might pay more to the insurance companies than I do to IRS..

Now you know why so many business's left America to make there products over seas and still ship it back here at a lower price than making it here.

I have found the same thing at other retailers when trying to purchase a macerator pump. West Marine had one in their online catalog for $100.00. They also have a store in town so I thought I'd pick it up there. Surprise surprise, the price in the store was $220.00. Needless to say I ordered it online

Merrykalia,

Yeah, cut the Executive some slack, he's kinda new around here and doesn't post that often. 🙂 LOL Actually, I think the Executive is being facetious. Or sarcastic. Or both!

Come to think of it, so am I! LOL 🙂

Ava, you would probably be well-served to broaden your search next time you're looking for items for your RV. Things can usually be found cheaper, sometime substantially cheaper, at places other than CW.

I don't shop at Camping World often, but will sometimes stop into one if there's one in the area. But the last time I needed something and stopped in, they didn't have the one I needed in stock, gave me a price if I ordered it from them, and when I compared that price to their online price, it was quite a bit higher. I asked if they'd match their online price if I had them order it for me and they said "No". So I left and ordered it online from a different place instead, even cheaper than the Camping World online price. I guess they didn't want my money. :@

Merchant's in general are pulling all kind of tricks these days. A true retail price is just an illusion anymore. Offering an outrageous price at first contact is a common trick. Some people bite. Log in on a Mac? They know that, and figure you have more money, and the price instantly goes up. This has been going on for years now. I went to Men's Warehouse to buy a leather jacket. I looked at two; an expensive one and a cheap one. The clerk was watching. I decided I wanted neither, and as I headed for the door she called me back and said "Oh, I think that cheap one is on sale" She scanned it and said "yes $100 off". It wasn't marked on sale. If I had brought the jacket over without leaving, there would have been no sale price. It's all gaming and trickery.
