Cedar Key Florida

Picking up our new motorhome on Tuesday. We are already planning a trip to Florida in October. Has anyone been to Cedar Key Florida? If so did you like it and where did you stay? We are thinking of staying at Low-Key Hideaway motel & RV Resort... any thoughts? Thanks Roy

Thanks for all the help everyone... Is there a nice RV resort near the shopping area so we can walk to it from the camp grounds but still be near the water? Or a easy way to get to town?..We won't have a toad yet... Thanks Roy

I flew in the multiple times, not recent, short strip.
There was a private cab service, reasonable. Don't know her phone # now, she used to monitor our arrival frequency.
Just looked it up on the aviation side, she is still active but can't find a phone #. My wife and I enjoyed our day visits.

There are no RV parks close to shopping. Cedar Key is a very small town, you can ride your bike all over from the campground, either Sunset Isle or Low Key. Sunset Isle has golf carts for rent also. Everybody is friendly and helpful and you can get a ride to downtown, it's only a few blocks.

Laid back is what we need. We don't need all the hoop la. A few cold beers some good sea food a little shopping for the DW and we are good to go. I am going to check out the Sunset Isle campground too. Thanks Roy 🙂

Another place we like in that area is Manatee Springs State Park. The regs state that it is limited to 35 ft RV's, but we had no issues with our 36 ft. Not on the Gulf but it is a nice quiet park with kayaking/canoeing opportunity along spring outlet and Suwannee River as well boardwalks. Loops were a little tight but if you take it slow, no issues.

The atmosphere of the area is laid back. If you need lots of activities then Cedar Key is not for you. We have been told that Cedar Key now is what Key West was 100 years ago.

We like Yellow Jacket RV Resort, Old Town, FL, between Old Town and Cedar Key. Pretty long drive to shopping from Cedar Key. It's a fishing village way in the "boonies" in my opinion, quiet and laid back, although worth a day trip. Read all the reviews on www.rvparkreviews.com

We stayed at Low Key Hideaway RV Resort & Motel 2 years ago in our 36' Motorhome with 2 Slides. We had a reservation for a week, but when we pulled in they were concerned we wouldn't fit. They even tried to get us another site with a campground up the road, but they didn't have any on the water. Finally we were able to get in one of their sites. They only have about 5 or 6. It's on the water but no beach. The sunsets were spectacular. A few nice places to eat in town. We enjoyed it, but then we enjoy everything.

There are two CG's off the island that are fairly large(Rainbow Country RV, Cedar Key RV Resort). There is one small CG on the island (Sunset Isle RV/Motel). I have not stayed at any of them.

We visited Cedar Key last January when we stayed in Crystal River at Rock Crusher Canyon RV Park. Cool spot to go for a few days. Not much around there if you are looking for anything else. We also went to a quilt shop on that day trip.

I have done a lot of fishing along that area. Its an area of rich green grass flats and crystal clear water. No nearby big cities to polute it. The village itself is relatively small and quaint and the seafood is very good. The Crystal River area does have much better RV parks and unless you rent a guide or boat a day trip is enough. Going south from there Crystal River, Homasassa, Chasawistka and WeekiWachi all have deep clear springs for swimming, tubing and Manatee and fish to see.

Cedar Key is a quaint little fishing village that has had pier front stores restored. Definitely a place to visit. We normally stay at Crystal River and drive over to Cedar Key for a day trip (55 miles). Crystal River has a lot more to offer as far as Resturants, and sites to visit. We normally stay at Rock Crusher http://www.rockcrushercanyon.com/ but there are other RV Parks that are suitable. http://naturecoastlandings.com/ is another we have stayed at and enjoyed.
