Diamond Shield removal

Well -- after much reading on this forum and others, my wife and I started scraping the diamond shield******off the front of our motorhome. The heat gun simply made a gooey mess of things, and peeling it off without the heat gun resulted in very small pieces coming off. We did clear the small area under the entrance door to the motorhome, but still (after about 4 hours work) have 90% of the nose of the vehicle to do. Goof off does work well on the residual glue, but the film itself comes off in very small pieces. We need help, advise, or a BOMB...........

Mine went bad year 6 out of warranty. I think humid conditions get the mildew growing.
I got the lower front off pretty easy. The upper part above the windshield is coming off in dime size pieces.

Since my last post in November 2013, I've discovered not only has my DS started to peal. It has also started to 'shatter'. Very fine cracks have started to appear. It looks like very fine shattered glass.

Hum - not to bad for only being applied for about 2 1/2 years. :R

The plan is still have a bra made on our trip to the Keys this January.

Just keep in mind this is like a lot of other things. You're going to hear more from folks with complaints than you will from those that are having a positive experience with a product.

I had Diamond Shield on my coach for six years, and except for a ding that I put in it with a ladder, it looked great.

I did take care of it by keeping it waxed and removing bugs after each day's drive with a soft pad and water only.

The Diamond Shield company tells you to keep pristine care of it and it won't be a problem... Not True! I have and black streaks are already starting on my 2012. Motorhome companies need to seriously stop putting this stuff on.

I am in the process of removing my DS now. I am traveling and left my heat gun at home so have been taking advantage of the sun. I let the sun warm it and it pulls off easier than I had expected. Mostly, I am getting large pieces off.

I am using mineral spirits to soften the adhesive, I scrape most of it off with plastic razor blades, then use lacquer thinner to get off the remaining glue. The paint is pristine.

I am now at Myrtle Beach for two weeks and plan to use the AM sun to finish up.

Ouch! Is all I can say. We have Diamond Shield on our 2008 R-Vision and it looks awful! The part over the cab is coated in tree sap or something - brown streaks all over. We have a call in to Diamond Shield but from reading this I'm wondering if it is a lost cause?
Looking forward to new adventures and new friends.

Did mine while wintering in Floridaโ€ฆโ€ฆ.used steam, heat gun and the stuff they sent me to remove it. 2 people working 6 hours each day and it took almost 4 days to get it all off. I will NEVER use this stuff again.

Quote: Diamond Shield tech used a wallpaper steamer to heat and soften the film then cleaned up behind it with Xylene. The steam will not over heat the film but soften the glue behind it without making the film too weak to pull off in larger pieces.

The Rep. that replaced mine used a steam gun, heating it and pulling it horizontally to the side vs. 90 degrees from the surface. He removed it in big sheets. When pulling it stretches and lifts from the surface. Seems like it took him between 1-2 hours, but that was 5 years ago and I don't recall the exact time.

From what I have read on here and other places, that is progress!

Diamond shield wanted $400.00 to take if off mine. This would be the third time if I take it off. They knew there was a problem with this stuff yet they continued to put it on. Full cost I was given to remove and put back on this time, over $1,000.00.
I blame the rv companies for allowing this stuff put on their rigs. DS now saying they have a better product. Wonder how many will be sucked into that one?

Send a PM to CloudDancer. He removed the DS off of his DS a few years ago.
